GOGG Hardwicke April 3rd 2011 - Photos

Hi Guys :wave:

I managed to get hold of a copy of MRJ 205 this weekend and I noticed - when idly thumbing through it on Sunday morning - that Glos. GOG Group had a little do at the village hall in Hardwicke......I am not sure if this is an annual or bi-annual event......I have been once or twice before and although a small event, it is interesting and very friendly. As it isnt far from 'ours' we popped down to have a look on Sunday afternoon...

The layouts included;-

Aswood Basin;
Severn Mill;
Test Track;
Diesel Shed.

Demonstrating was a Mr. Murdoch (kit building).

With the following Traders in attendance;

Scorpio;
Dragon;
Eileen's;
Haywood.

In the past CPL have been there too.

Well worth a look - for future events - if one is local to the area.

The layouts were charming with Ashwood Basin being one of the smallest 7mm layouts I have ever seen, compressed perspectives/buildings, yet loaded with detail it just goes to show what can be achieved in 7mm in a v'limited space :bowdown: :thumbs: Severn Mill, is a 16' 'Colonel Stephens' type layout with an interesting track-plan and good use of space. The trackwork was all suitably 'light weight' rail section and the whole concept/layout worked rather well......

......More in my sphere of err um 'expertise'  :-[ ??? :eek: :)) was a diesel era layout, with some of Mr. Tiger-viking's friends and colleagues in attendance. Diesel Depot  being the layout's name and so I understand an second-hand layout undergoing some changes. Another interesting and ingenious track plan with just 2-3 points (two of which being 3-ways) and twin fiddle yards (either end).

I have taken a few photos of Diesel Depot for those who maybe interested in WR/MR heavy oil types......and I also waved the flag for Western Thunder and you never know we may have some more recruits. The guys operating Diesel Depot[ seemed a very friendly bunch with much in common with us all here and although I was told who made/painted what model I am ashamed to say that I couldnt remember who was who by the time that I got home :-[  :headbang: :))...Some of the chaps, so I understand, worked for Antics. I do know which manufacturers supplied which kit/model.....in many respects the guys on the day were/are big fans of fettling Heljan's products :bowdown: :drool: :thumbs:

Anyway I hope that you enjoy the photos of the 'cops' I had whilst peeping over the fence and from the signal box ;D

ATVB,

CME :wave:

Great pics CME, thanks for sharing  :D 8) 8) 8) :drool:........I wonder if the maroon Warship is Trevor's (D7093 from the old RMweb) ?........either way some lovely models & I hope some of the modellers do find their way here, as the would be most welcome  :D  :thumbs:

Phill  :wave:

PS I notice that thanks to Cynric's hard work we are now top of the list on the Google search for 'Western Thunder'  :D , which is great news as I know a few potential members have expressed difficulty in finding us on the web in the past.

Not if you've paid attention around here... http://www.westernthunder.co.uk/http:// ... ?t=3 :eek: ;D ;)
Sorry, just a bit of gratuitous self-publicity... ::) :-[ :shit:

Ashwood Basin was built by Makhis of this Parish...
http://www.westernthunder.co.uk/http:// ... ic.php?t=7 ...but has been sold on. Good to know it's still 'out&about', though.

Yes, lovely pictures, and a nice layout / collection of locos made and weathered with a nice eye for detail, too. Thanks for posting.  :thumbs:

Hi Phill :wave:

I didnt hear the name Trevor mentioned. The Warship is a DJH kit with very noisey gearboxes - which caused much hilarity - no need for a sound decoder :eek: 8) :))

I thought that - with our discussions elsewhere - ambient/background sound and maybe even loco sound decoders would be perfect fo this MPD/diesel depot :scratch: :thumbs:

Nice shots though  :thumbs:

Hi Cynric :wave:

I only found out last minute too  ??? :-[ :headbang: - I dont know if the club has an internet prescence or not - it would have been good to meet up for a chat.

I have made a note in the diary to try and see if it is on next year - I never thought to ask :headbang:

Perhaps it maybe worth joining just for the info - the group seem to meet every friday :scratch:

Sorry that you missed out - I hope, in a small way, that the photos made up for it.

Hi all,
GLOSgog is an annual event organised by the Gloucester O gauge group. I usually go but could not make it this year. They also have another event during the winter at Northwood Green near Westbury on Severn but never made that one even though my mate lives in the village. The Hardwicke meeting is usually a nice little get together. I watched Alan Brackenborough hand line the splashers on a Cardean there once. Fred Lewis was hoping to go this time. Anybody see him there?.

Hello Graham :wave:

Thanks for that info :thumbs:

Yes Mr B. was in attendance, I was also told that members were to attend a meet at his home/layout - lucky fellows :drool: :bowdown: :thumbs:

If my circumstances were different and the group a little closer then I would look to join as they seem a friendly bunch with wide interests and many interesting layouts and skilled modellers.....

Hi, David Cross and Dave Murdock I know reasonably well. I've never been to see Alan's railway.
I would like to one day  as it looks good in the magazines.
