Graham Farish 08 coupling rods

Has anybody had a go at refining the Graham Farish 08 (with outside frames) coupling rods to a more scale appearance? Was it difficult? Are there replacement rods available as an alternative?

Many thanks

Simon,

The 2MMSA do replacement roads for various locos but not for the 08 I don't think, unless there are some with the conversion kit. Otherwise they also do some 'generic' rods as follows: 16 x 18mm, 16 x1 7mm, 14.5 x 16.5mm, 14.5 x 15.5mm, 14 x 15.5mm, 20mm and 19mm.

I've refined the rods on an 03 I converted to 2FS, doing am 08 would be similar. Essentially the rods were filed down to reduce the width. The big problem is the chunky crank pins which means little can be done in that area.
I decided the 08 had too many issues to warrant conversion. It doesn't run anything like as well as the 03/04 chassis and is grossly over width.
I've built the Association 08 kit and have a replacement chassis to do for another which will go under a Farish body

Many thanks gents for your helpful info and suggestions. The replacement coupling rods look useful auld_boot. I agree about the crank pins Jerry; very hard to reduce those in size, but not impossible. I had no idea the current GF 08 was a bad runner or over scale.
