Yes Heljan have been including the resistors for some time now but it is nice to see them using wiring that isn't just red an d black.

Richard

Hi Richard,

Yes it is a BIG step forward but it is a pity that they did not go the whole way and use the full wiring colour convention - they used three different colours for the +common and not one of them the correct blue one:rant::rant::rant:

Needless to say that the ETH cables that have to be loosened when taking the body off of the chassis both broke so an alternative long term solution needs thinking about for that gem.

I will be adjusting some CVs this afternoon mainly for acceleration/deceleration and volume, then thinking about the weathering.

kind regards

Mike

resistors: the LED brightness will be limited by having a greater resistance than needed, but this is the only disadvantage of so doing.

as you know, having too little resistance will lead to pretty much instant failure

you could measure the current in the LED circuit - but unless you know what it is supposed to be (or at least what the max is) , I’m not sure it it helps!

Happy New Year

How did you separate the brake chains from the body ?

I would prefer to retain them but that proved too difficult with the 37/4.

Hi Richard,

Heljan have learnt another lesson in as much as the lever is fixed on the chassis and therefore separation is not required.

Have fun

Hi Simon,

Replying to your post from Sainsbury's car park in Upton while the Guv is doing the shopping.

Thanks for your advice but I will be leaving things as is now, might delve further on the 33 when it appears.

Happy New Year

At last, a running session at the Club, where 50047 Swiftsure turned it's wheels in 'anger' for the first time other than on the rolling road

must sort out the running lights on the Inspection Saloon asap.

All in all a good running in session, especially as no gremlins climbed out of the woodwork.

Weathering to come, hopefully over the weekend, now that I have tidied up the workshop!

Looking good! Have I missed an update on the Inspection Saloon?

Hi Cliff,

this is the ex GWR H33 Restaurant Coah that BR converted in WR Action - Ressaldar’s workbench, the ex LMS Diag 1/551 conversion is now in pride of place on the workbench and with a bit of luck, should be heading for the paint shop next week and the update for that will appear here in Area 51.

kind regards

Mike

Getting there with the weathering

not really convinced with the clag around the roof outlets, will try something else over the weekend and perhaps a touch more roof dirt generally.

The clag round the exhaust outlets looks fine, its the rest of the roof is too clean so the transition from one to other is too sudden.

If you look on Brian Daniels Flickr site there are nice roof shots showing how this should be.

Hi Richard,

many thanks for your comments. I was looking at the right problem area, but from the wrong angle - not for the first time I might add. I will have a toning down session on the roof over the weekend and see what transpires.

Mike
