I wouldn't worry about drunken signs. They were only stuck in the ground, after all. The coupling, though, definitely one to reject.

I am looking forward to seeing the article when it appears, so these images from the cutting room floor are a nice bonus.

For rejects they strike me as pretty good, in fact I'm most taken with the lighting on the flying pig picture at the top of the page. It has a look of winter and a snow laden sky in the background.

Never thought about it before but wouldn't the loco have a hook dropping down from the buffer beam onto which the coupler would have been hung onto or the link hooked back over the coupling hook to keep it out of the way? As shown on 60138 (York) and 30768 (Sittingbourne) albeit NE and S regions. Both are my dad's photographs late 50's early 60's.

LMR engines, on the whole as I haven't checked all types, don't have a secondary hook clips which tend to be on the SR and WR, they would as you note, normally flip the lower link back over the draw hook, but that's all dependent on sheds, pride and fireman idleness.

Checking quickly through my Patriot images off the web, about half are hanging and half are flipped over, the remaining odds and sods had the lower link flipped up and hooked over the Tommy bar.

I'll have to send you the full-size file....but it will have to be our secret. Ssshhhhh.
Whilst you're editing the photo - a little illumination on the loco head code and signal would go amiss and the also all the point and signal rodding from the signal box needs adding. :p Seriously though a very atmospheric photo - the colour balance and composition work brilliantly.

When I first saw the picture, I instantly visualised the Ivatt crawling cautiously through patchy fog, its driver straining to see the next signal or any obstruction ahead in the gloom, but I think you've nailed it with the snow laden winter sky.

Hi,

We've now picked up with the scenic work after the picture interlude. It seems ages since we worked properly on the layout, and it probably is as we have been outside most of the summer.

We're continuing with the work to make the backscene buildings more 3 dimensional, rather than being cut off at the ridge line. Jim G has kindly provided some laser cut roof tiles which arrived this morning, and were mostly used up by this afternoon:) It is a big roof, and I underestimated the number required:oops:

We're going to have some repair work to the front wall, we have some sash windows to install, interiors, and the downpipes need replacing and collectors adding. the chimneys are already made, and Clive is busy weathering them. We of course have to replace the end walls with newly carved Depron, and my task today was to start the process.

This is the far end - the near end will need advertisments or perhaps some cinema posters, suitably distressed (hello Tim....)

It was really nice to be getting back to some scenic work.

A superb railway really top drawer! Was that Brian's tadpole as it is a bit out of area. Your railway sets a standard that we others seek to match and sadly fail!

Hello Martin,

Thank you for your comments. Yes, it was Brian's tadpole (I wouldn't have known what it was or why it was so named unless he'd told me:) ) It's a really nice train with 3 very different vehicles.

You are really not working hard enough on him to wean him away from things that are green! I would have thought the Ivatt 4MTs would have done the trick but seemingly not. I believe the Doctors can prescribe something for it though!
