Hi Everyone
My name is Rob and I have been looking at and admiring this forum for a while now - so I thought I had better join in.
I am a 7mm modeller and a member of the GOG - but a relative beginner really. I am building a variety of models but my focus is not yet defined - SR is nice but I was brought up within the the sight and sound of the WR (born in Swindon with a father who worked in the Swindon works). I was a railway freight guard at Swindon for a few years in the early eighties so I also love the Westerns as I worked on most of them. My earlier youth remembers the lovely diesel/steam mix which was so exciting to a young impressionable person. I'll tell you stories if you like.
I so like the models that appear here - awesome even - and some of the diesel models are so good that it is hard to tell that they are not the real thing in photographs. The camera seems to be the 'judge' more and more.
Anyway I am currently shaming myself into a build of a David Andrews Merchant Navy for which I am not really skilled enough ( but if you want a laugh then look on the GOG forum in my workbench bit to see how hard I can make it ... its called 'It will be finished one day...' (but it won't!)).
I also am very much interested in signalling and have successfully managed to create my own CAD files using TurboCad and getting some custom etches done by PPD, resulting in a couple of splendid signals being built - great fun and very rewarding as a lot of personal research time was involved. I quite fancy designing and building an etch for a lever frame with working locking - but that's a way off yet.
I'm quite interested too in the possibilities of laser wood cutting for buildings - but I don't know much about that yet - does anyone have any info on any companies that do that sort of thing from custom cad artwork?
