It must be Spring - The Golden valley

The sun was shining in Hereford so I managed a really nice little 40 mile bike ride on one of my favourite routes with lots of railway interest.
Leaving Hereford I followed the Great Western line via the back lanes down to Pontrilas where the old station still stands along with the signal box and some semaphore signals, then crossing the main road i followed the route of the Golden Valley railway through Bacton Abbeydore and along to Dorstone. from there I cut down to the Toll bridge over they Wye and picked up the Hay, Hereford and Brecon railway at Whitney on Wye and via the back lanes I followed the old line back into Hereford.
its still quite easy to follow lines as in such a rural area much of the trackbed and bridge abutments still remain.
All in all a pleasant few hours :D

Would've been even better if you could've done the journey on a train, still... ;)[/quote:xmk3zgd3]
The last time that would have been possible is 1951, when the Golden Valley Railway closed between Dorstone and Hay, and I would have taken the best part of a day
