My turn to introduce myself... Born and living in the Netherlands, 52 years old now and model railway fan since I got a Lego train in 1973, an early start in 7mm scale, as I was only 7 years old. Five years later I switched to H0, but 1985 I started making a model of a Dutch goods van in 7mm scale, a few years later followed by another one.
In the early 90s a friend past away, who had a large amount of unbuild British 7mm kits, mostly Slaters and Peco. Some months later these kits were mine. Great! One big problem was, that I didn't have any information about British railways, so I sold the whole bunch a couple of years later.
Although I 'used' H0 for collecting models, the real modelling was in 7mm, always based on the world I knew, somewhere in Area 51: Netherlands and Germany, and always real locations. Again a problem, a standard gauge continental layout needs a lot of space with those large continental wagons.
In the current world with internet and paypal it isn't that hard to collect lots of information about that large island to the west of my country, with their lovely small wagons, so where are my Slaters kits? Well, as you know, sold many years ago.
In 2015 I started collecting books of the Western region, many of them South Wales and Forest of Dean. Together with those great Dapol-by-Webster models it seems to be impossible to ever switch back to my continental modelling. But which location to recreate in 7mm? The more books I buy to get inspired, the more locations to make a choice from.
A Pannier Tank and some vans, minerals and wagons are here already.
And how did I find this forum? Well, I'm a Pencarrow follower too.
