JLTRT Warship and D63xx

According to the latest GOG Gazette that arrived today they will out 'later this year' which i guess means Telford or later. Just as well I can get saving   I do wonder at the sense of introducing the two so close to each other as both are aimed at the same audience.

I think a few of us on here need to get saving....

Although I'd like at least one of each, my money will be earmarked for a Warship first (D829 "Magpie", blue, FYE, in case anybody was wondering). I guess the wheels are already available from Slater's, given that Tower already do a Warship - perhaps I should buy a set and have them re-profiled in readiness? :D

I'd like at least one of each

Thats the problem :D If anyone else wants one (or three!) I would be interested to see if we could get and discount for a group order. JLTRT were selling class 20's for ?800 a pair which is a good saving on the asking price.

If you can get enough of us to get the class 22 at a good price, count me in

I knew it... just as soon as I'd gone through all that aggro with the S.B. kit, something better would come out...

Sorry chaps, I don't need another one (especially at JLTRT prices!)... as it'd only show up the one I've got, anyway...

Seeing as the JLTRT Class 22 will be far superior to my SB kit, but rather more ??? ... would now be a good time to flog mine on Fleabay, both in anticipation, and before it becomes absolutely worthless.... :p

I think the JLTRT is likely to be a couple of years off, so you have plenty of time.... Fwiw I don't think it will become worthless, there is always a market for more economical kits.

As I have said before, I have built numerous Tamiya kits (military and RC) over the years and I like the way they are packaged and the instructions etc., which all lead to a pleseant modelling experience and a great model, and after much hacking, filing, fettling etc. in 7mm (with plenty of similar kits still to do :headbang:  ), I am looking forward to something more satisfying (whether that be in brass, resin or whatever) -

All the best,

CME
I couldnt agree more, I just cant be bothered fighting with grotty kits anymore :headbang: :headbang:

What about the satisfaction you have from seeing the finished model, or the satisfaction from the plaudits you have garnered by making a silk purse out of what is commonly reckoned to be somewhat worse than a sow's ear? (Sorry, I don't think I ever mentioned to you how impressed I was with your achievements with this kit, but I was - and so were many who haven't told you.)

If you sold it, someone else would get the pleasure of owning it, and there is no way you could sell it at a rate that paid well enough on a hourly basis to recoup your efforts? Do you want someone else running the loco on their layout, mentioning that it is a Steve Beattie kit, but not mentioning that you built it, in the hope that other people think it was their work?

Maybe the JLTRT class 22 will come out, maybe it will be as good as the Fred Phipps version in 1:32, but yours will still command respect due to its origins - and it looks the part.
Don't lose that respect!

Just some thoughts...

Aww, thanks everyone!! It does strike me as somewhat indicative of how low a kit's reputation can be, that "courage" is needed to buy one...!!!  :?
I just keep looking at the windscreens, knowing that I didn't get them really close to how they should be, although as I said at the time it was the best I could do  :headbang: The windscreens really are one part of a model that "make or break" how closely it captures the look of the prototype, and here I'm still a tad dis-satisfied with my results. Maybe I'm just being a bit harsh on myself  To cheer myself up I sometimes look back at this thread on RMweb, where profesional modeller Brian Mosby made the Steve Beattie Baby Deltic for a customer.Obviously he didn't have the time to spend putting the kit completely right - I take Simon's point about hourly rates!!

Thanks for the support.

Hi Jordan, as i have said to you before you made an exellent job on your 22 and you should be proud of what you did   . However if you are planning to have more than 1 class 22 then (i found this with the western, nigel stanley version) there comes the time to make the decision of do you buy the second kit the same as the first so there are'nt any real differences in looks or can you live with the fact if you bought a different kit ( in this case say a JLTRT ) that there would be differences. I found that i could'nt :headbang: . The nigel stanley western, as much as i tried was'nt going to look good next to a JLTRT western  . So my decision was made to learn from that, i sort of enjoyed semi-building the nigel s kit ( i did'nt finish it ). i got some building experience from it but decided to sell it.
The decision could be made alot easier , if you only plan to have 1 class 22 then if your happy with your kit ( and you should be  ) its not going to be stood next to another so your not going to compare. So you can be happy with what you've got.
Right enough of the waffling hope this has helped
