Well you were asking for loads of photos etc. So here you join me building the JLTRT Hall class. The tender is already completed as I join the WT forum. It went together quite well with good instructions and exploded diagram drawings. There was no consideration or etching for the draw bar arrangement to couple to the loco. So I added a 6BA bolt to the chassis and fitted a DA spare draw bar. I will add a vertical pin with a suitable gap when the loco is built.

I have now started on the loco chassis. This is a bit of a problem as no written instructions for guidance of the many etchings and castings provided in the kit. Also the exploded drawings are quite sketchy too. So experience is coming into play on this build plus the use of some of my photos.

The chassis so far.

Onwards now with the body. (I received the missing CD of the step by step build that should have been in the kit. Thanks to swift action by Laurie)

At least I now have an idea what is what with the etches.

The chassis still requires detailing but getting the body is really need before I can do that. As clearances need to be considered first.

Here is today effort after the post had arrived.

Movement today. Now well under way. Only some minor adjustments to the chassis to get a good fit. I had to shave a small amount from the front edge of the frames and remove some metal from the footplate supports on the inside of the frames.

I secured the resin unit with small self tapping screws in the cab. The smokebox was secured by drilling and tapping for an 8BA bolt. As long as you are not very heavy handed when tightening this works well.

The fun now starts fitting all the pipework and handrails etc.

Well under way now. The castings are a bit of a mixed bag ranging from iffy to quite good. (This is the the basic kit, not the super detail version) A fair amount of time was spent cleaning up and prepping the castings, even though not the super detailed kit, there is a lot of castings.

Here it is with the body almost finished. Then there is quite a lot to do on the chassis.

Swift as ever Ken

About the only WR engine I have an eye for (Castles excepted), right tender too.

Will it be lined BR black, they did look smart in that livery.

Hi MD. I believe it will be BR lined black, that is what he usually does.

Adrian. This has been a very slow build. Not just the lack of instructions explaining what the numbered parts are and where they go, it was difficult to get the parts to fit especially the chassis.

I have to say, the tender was very nice to build, everything fitting very well and good instructions showing where things were meant to go.

I do not follow instructions to the letter as I have my own way of building and in what order, just using the instructions to get a feel of what the designer of the kit had in mind so to speak.

Now it's on to the David Andrews LNER L1/3 tank loco kit. As is usual with the DA kits, looks very good and I am not expecting any problems with this build. I started yesterday pm removing all the etches from the chassis fret, preparing them for todays session with the iron.

I have elongated the centre axle hole and using 20" piano wire for the spring which is my usual method.

All went very well, just by following the excellent exploded diagrams.

The body is going well and is fitting together very well. As predicted there is some surgery required to get the motor to fit. Namely the chassis needed some work to get the motor to sit horizontal and the firebox/boiler needed to have holes cut to accommodate it.

Two of my essential tools on the WB is the folding bars and rolling bars.

A good day on the WB for a change with no interruptions. The body, after the surgery to get the motor in has gone together vey well. Just the beading over the bunker rear was a couple of mm too wide, easily fixed and an invisible joint made in the centre.

It is a pleasure building this kit.
