I have a full list somewhere, but I think you have covered most of them. As I said somewhere, the Maroon is a bummer to get correct as  coach maroon just seems too dark - opening can of worms  :))

Hi Phill,

Only missed D1045 (11/04/68 to 20/08/70), D1067 (19/10/67 to 25/02/69) and D1068 (17/10/67 to 22/04/70) according to Mr Curtis.

I have often wondered who on earth D1054 was released in MFYE in 1970 when other Westerns (including those previously in MFYE!!!) were outshopped in Blue BEFORE D1054 was released back into traffic???

On the paint front, unless you want a pristine ex.works maroon Wizzo, I think that even a light dose of weathering on any good approximate maroon base colour will do. Also I'm not at all convinced that the original maroon colour on the westerns was identical on all locos, and certainly there were repairs to maroon locos which required partial repaints and where the colour contrast between the maroon paintwork is very noticeable

PW assures me that there was Swindon Maroon, and certainly some seem a lighter shade so there could be something in it. The colour did weather badly which would account variation as well.

I have added those three to the list

My Western is a lighter shade of maroon, but will be weathered heavily when I modify it.............I'm thinking seriously about doing the windscreen mods that Richard did on his RJH  8) 8) 8)

Is that because you can't see the colours under the grime?  ;)

I have a bit of a soft spot for the SP.  It was DRGW/SP that I modelled in my dark side days around 15 years ago.  There's nothing quite like a filthy tunnel motor!

ooo-eer, Mrs..!!!!

Was there ever any other sort of Tunnel Motor, though..?? Kind of a hazard of the job, really...

(Pssst... How long until we let these UK-only chaps in on the secret of what we're talking about...??) ;) ;D

It was precisely because the SP painted their locos Red & Grey that the SOO LINE repainted it's locos Red & White...!!! the reason being:- look at any monochrome photo of a Red/Grey SP loco and spot the difference between the colors  :headbang: ... they are almost the same shade of grey!!! No mistaking the shades on a Soo engine

Anyway we must stop this as poor ol' Iploffy is having a nervous breakdown just at the mere hint that other Railway colours besides BR Blue are available; he'll collapse completely if he realises that other Countries also have trains as well, and that some of us are actually interested in them... :))

Maybe this'll help him feel a bit better; my latest area of interest Stateside - some nice BLUE engines of Progressive Rail, Inc;...

They don't have yellow ends, of course, since they have retina-searing headlights and ear-splitting air-horns to do the warning, instead of a patch of yellow paint.... ::) ;D ;)

What he said!

Something about being marooned in a sand bunker, on a dewy green, under a golden ochre sunset...  ;D

I shall leave you all to work out how to get the warning panels into this scene.

As we took a lazy afternoon stroll we happened across a warning panel that alerted us to beware of being marooned in a sand bunker, on a dewy green, under a golden ochre sunset!

How's that?

Close...  almost a cigar.  I am sure that the afficiandos of the Westerns would like to see references to "small" and "full" within the storyline (and any other variant on either the size/shape of the warning panel or the condition of the bodyside paint, such as scruffy, washed, faded or blistered). ;D ;D

You loose marks, out of 1000 of course, for mentioning any colour near to the UV end of the spectrum. ;) ;)

As we took a lazy afternoon stroll we happened across a small warning panel. It read to be on 'full alert' for scruffy, unwashed, faded and blistered plumbers who would leave us marooned in a sand bunker, on a dewy green, under a golden ochre sunset by a BLUE sea!  :))

So that is what he was saying was it?  Why did he not just say Blue?

Thank you for joining in, Graham
