Hornby GRANGE...

Back in 2016, I bought a Hornby and a Bachmann 'Hall' and that was when I noticed the bufferbeam on the Hornby 'Grange' was far too shallow. It was one of Hornby's unfathomable's......

A deeper bufferbeam was added to my next coach sheet....

WEB Grange bufferbeam 2.jpg

Halfords Acid 8 Etching Primer was brushed over the bufferbeam and buffer shanks...

....Followed by a coat of Precision Paints buffer beam red....

Some weeks later I decided to obliterate the weird green with early 1950's unlined black livery....

When a second Grange was purchased, it got my treatment for BR green locos, namely BS 224 Deep Bronze Green cellulose and slightly darkened Precision Paints BR orange lining. The chassis and other parts were also weathered...

Now that you have pointed that out, I know that mine is also wrong, And seeing it above it looks very wrong, So every time i go to my railway room ill look at it, It does look much better now that you have changed it thou, So ill have to do the same. Nice work.

GWR HALL...
The ingredients....
WEB Hall 0.jpg

....And one Hornby Railroad 'Hall'....
WEB Hall 1.jpg

Remove all moulded plastic detail (not outside steam pipes or ejector pipe!), and fit smokebox dart and handrail knobs plus wire. Also paint Mascol onto cab windows, copper to chimney and safety valve before spraying...
WEB Hall 2.jpg

I removed the NEM socket from the bogie and added a crossbar just for detail...

WEB Hall 4.jpg

Halfords Red Oxide Plastic Primer....

WEB Hall 3.jpg

The model below was sprayed with Halfords Grey Plastic Primer while the wheel tyre s were painted with Halfords Acid 8 etching primer. Of note is the additional detail on the smokebox and two separate handrails near the cab window....

WEB Hall 9.jpg

Linkage to sandboxes....
WEB Hall 5.jpg

Hall fitted with lost-wax brass chimney (these things used to be cast in copper!). The original nameplate was trimmed back and used as a mounting plate for engraved plates. The loco had received a complete repaint...
WEB Hall 6.jpg

5867 was yet another variant made from the inexpensive Railroad loco and given a full repaint...
WEB Hall 7.jpg

As was this loco.....
WEB Hall 10.jpg

This Modified Hall was made from a Bachmann 'Hall' using the Brassmaster conversion kit....

Looking back, neither Bachmann's nor Hornby's 'Hall' have the right wheels. The Bachmann bosses are too small and Hornby's are way to large.
