Lenz gold maxi - Where to buy

Willy

Western Thunderer
I want to DCC my '0' gauge Heljan Hymek using a Lenz gold maxi, so I am looking for a good reliable UK mail-order supplier. I have tried Howes Models but unfortunately they are out of stock. I have found them for sale here http://www.dccsuppli...products_id=666 but I have never heard of these people, so can anyone recommend them.

Or, can anyone recommend an alternatively decoder that is readily available and that would be suitable for the above loco.

Thank you.

I use DCC supplies near Worcester, they are my local suppliers. I have found them very knowledgable and helpful, and competitively priced. I bought all my DCC stuff from them and am a very satisfied customer. I can't, however, vouch for their mail order service.

Hi Richard.

Thank you for that and I am sure their mail-order will be fine.

Hi Willy,

I don't think you'll go wrong with DCC Supplies - I get all my non-sound-card stuff from DCC as they're speedy on service, offer good advice, and you can get good quality gear at very reasonable prices. I go to SWD for the soundy stuff though.

Good choice on the Lenz Maxi Gold - I tend to use these on my non-sound apps. Never had a problem with them, which is more than I can say for a few others.....

Can we see your Hymek please?

Thank you for the above comment D1054.

I placed the order yesterday morning and I received an email yesterday afternoon to say that the decoder was in the post and giving me a tracking number, so excellent service so far. I used the standard Lenz Gold when I dabbled in American HO a few years ago and I was impressed so I thought I would stick with the mark. I have a couple of Golds left over but I don't think they will be hefty enough for the Hymek.

The Hymek is stripped down at the moment awaiting the arrival & fitting of the decoder. Then I hope to have a go at weathering it and if that turns out well, I will post some photos.

Thank you also for your comment CME.

Cheers,

Willy

To right Willy--- the cat is really out  What with pics of your weathering, the availability of a JLTRT add on kit and a few pics on RMweb of Brian Daniels effort PLUS the better half agreeing to sound chipping (if I'm a good boy  ) I'd better get the dust off of my box and check the beast is still in there

Hi Guys

Am I right in thinking that JLTRT are now doing parts for the Heljan Hymek? 'Cause when I asked/suggested such a few years back, I was given the thumbs down by one of Mr. Waterman's henchmen   :? :(

Looking forward to seeing your phots too

All the best,

CME [/quote:yflth0eg]
Me too

You are all setting the bar very high lads, so I had better do a reasonable job.

It will be a couple of weeks before I can start however because I have just decided to knock a hole and fit a door in the wall between the layout room and the house. The layout room was an old wine store attached to the house but there was never an internal connection between the two. Knocking a hole in a wall is not normally a problem, but this wall is a 2ft thick stone wall and it has taken a bit of effort and it will be a week or so before I can made good. I then have to find everything that I boxed up and put away to avoid it being covered in a layer of dust so it is going to be another couple of weeks before I can make a start. :(

I have not heard of a detailing kit from JLTRT, but I am a bit out of touch here and I will be the last to know. :(

I believe they are going to sell more kit castings as separate items - which might push me to a second Hymek

It would be a sensible marketing move to sell the castings as 'add-ons' it might encourage more kit sales.

"CME & Bottlewasher" Hi Mike  I mentioned that to one of Mr. - er sorry - Dr. Waterman's said:
That was always the case, but after the initial rush for a kit by the early adopters I would imagine sales settle down to a trickle and as long as the costs have been covered it is an opportunity to 'monetize' remaining castings etc. the drawback with selling individual castings is the extra work involved in processing etc for more small orders. But you are correct, it does dilute the brand however if sales are slow it brings in cash flow.
/ business management mode off

Don't panic, everything is under control! :D

There is a bigger wine store in the barn, so I can get away with this apparent sacrilege!

but we, the punter, never know what the 'included in the kit price' is for the castings, especially as all of the kits are the same price?, so we have to accept that the price charged for the individual castings is 'an appropriate' one and that we are not being too overcharged - but i suppose that if we ask for the castings in the first place, we are prepared to pay 'the' price.
