LMS 42ft GUV drawings.

Now that I'm about 98% through the D16, I've been thinking about the next project, this being that as stated in the title.

Would anybody have some decent drawings, or know if NRM have them on file?

Only really looking for the body and underframe detail, as perfectly good bogies and plastic formed roofs are already available.

JB, Jim,
I think the drawing that the LMSS lists may only be a diagram, not a GA - so won't help much with the details.
You haven't said exactly which diagram you're after - I assuming either D1870 or D2023.
With reference to the drawing numbers listed in Essery & Jenkinson Volume 1, I checked in my copy of the NRM lists.
GA 14/2172 is for Diag 1870 - 42ft. Luggage & Parcels Van, dated 1933. NRM reference: Roll 120 box 76
GA 14/3032 is for Diag 2023 - Luggage & Parcels Van 42’-0”. Suitable for Aeroplane Traffic, dated 1937. NRM reference: Roll 148 box 96

Might be worth checking HMRS too (I've just looked on their revamped website and don't see a simple way to search by drawing number though...)

HTH,
Andy

Edit - Found 14/2172 in the HMRS list (their drawing number 5156).
Looks as though they also have the matching underframe drawing, 13/1843
HMRS Drawings
It would be far more useful if their database was searchable by original drawing number.

Edit 2 - Just to confirm, neither are in the Midland Railway Study Centre Collection (our LMS stuff is only up to around 1928)

Andy,

The drawing I got was a dimensioned GA but I couldn't be certain about the others. An email to Jim Watt, who is the drawing custodian now, would clear the matter up. I'll PM him on the Caledonian Association forum and get his response.

JB,
Can you post a picture or a link, please? I'm not sure what vehicle you're looking for and am now even less certain than i was!
Cheers,
Steph

Hi Steph, it's the same prototype that your dad and I tried to build from the A and D products kit that melted..

Aah - okay. In that case let me have a dig. About half a million years ago one of the mags (I think MRC) did a good piece on them.

The article was in Model Railways magazine, May 1988. If the drawings in "Historic Carriage Drawings", Vol3 by Tatlow are of any use start a conversation with me so that you can let me have your email address. I should be able to assist with these and a scan of the above mentioned article.

Regards.

Oh yes, I remember. I've suddenly come over all unnecessary again......:'(

Actually I have quite a collection of photos of varying quality, and there have also been some good ones printed in one or two of the Cheona books.

Thanks Jim,

Might well be the best bet...

JB,

I've just had a response back from Jim Smellie who looks after the LMS Society's coach drawing archive. He says that about 90% of the drawings in the archive are GA drawings with the remaining 10% being diagrams. Jim recommends contacting him to discuss your requirements and to check whether he would have a GA drawing to meet your requirements. I can see two 42ft GUV drawings on the list but it looks as though they may be some of the diagram style drawings unfortunately.

Hi Pete, sadly not.

Not even the chief activist from the LMS society could help. Only one thing for it, measure the real thing and avoid the preservation modifications.

JB.
I have just caught up with this thread; I built one from a Westdale kit (7mm) a short while ago; I found this article/drawing, so hope it is useful
