Louville Lane Cameo

Typically urban, Alan, with everything shoehorned into a postage stamp sized area. Love the ‘looking-across-the-platform’ type look that I’m aiming for myself.

The roof can only enhance the atmosphere and I’m looking forward to seeing the results.

Great brackets!

I've been away for a few days and also had a slight loss of my modelling mojo so nothing has been done for nearly 10 days, but thankfully my mojo decided to return today, looking shame faced for having deserted me, so today I finally glued the arches at the back down, roughly weathered the canopy pillars and painted the platform and the roof trusses. Hopefully over the weekend I'll start on the canopy itself, photos will come later.

Spent the afternoon erecting the trusses.

Next is start building the roof

That really is quick work, Alan.

I wish I could build at your rate. Good to see that the iron work is already casting shadows across the platform.

Ah Jonte, the trusses and posts have been made several weeks ago and it was only after the loss of my mojo mainly caused by the thought of erecting them that I thought to hell with it lets get on and do it, so I did , and I'm reasonably proud of it, but I do need to add stays etc which will give me the chance to do some more erecting over the coming week.

I'm afraid little progress this week, life getting in the way, and there will be none next week as we are going away for a bit. Hopefully when I get back I'll be raring to go.

Is it just me that the closer you get to some sort of conclusion the further away it appears and more things need to be done.

Back from my annual attempt to aid the Greek Island economy. Unfortunately caught a heavy cold, so not quite as enjoyable as normal, and landing at Gatwick whilst being unable to. clear the ears as I had a very blocked nose was extremely unpleasant and painful.

Enough of my problems. Started today on the canopy roof. Just the shape cut out at the moment and placed on the trusses. I am thinking of making it removable so as to be able to get at any stock that might fall off the tracks. I know it is only a straight piece of track and things shouldn't fall off, but if something can happen, you know it will happen sometime down the line.

All straight and true, Alan, and suitably frames the layout. It really concentrates the effect of extra depth too which I remember was an initial goal. Well done.

Will you be topping it off with a louvred vent?

Regards,

Jonte.

Thanks for you kind comments Jonte. The inset gap is for glazing it may be made a trifle larger. It's nothing like or as good as the canopy that you are constructing.

That’s a massive compliment, Alan, thank you.

However, I still have a long way to go and I have form for losing interest :(

You on the other hand, not only have a canopy which has past the test of being stable enough to do the job for which it was intended, but also a working, charming little layout on which to mount it. Commendable.

I’m still unsure whether mine won’t just collapse!

Keep up the good work,

Jonte

I have started work on the roof one side finished except for glazing and glazing bars and painting. After that it will be adding details, gutters etc. at the moment it is just placed on the trusses relying on nothing more than gravity. I'm beginning to think I should have bought shares in Evergreen.

Work on the canopy roof progresses, it is now painted. The next jobs are to add the glazing, join the two halves together and a touch of weathering should see it completed. I hope it all works!!!! Not quite Jonte's standard in Liverpool Cheapside, but about as good as I can get at the moment. We will see hoe good when it is finished.

Too right it’s not to my standards, Alan.

Wait till you see the photos of all the mistakes.

Don’t knock yourself, Alan. Your going in the direction.

Keep us posted.

Bestest,

Work is progressing slowly on the glazing due to the fine weather allowing plenty of time on the rivers and Broads on the boat and also watching a few games of the World Cup. One side is two thirds done however and should be finished tomorrow.

I have finished the glazing on one side of the canopy. It needs some touching up and weathering. Now to do the other side and then the joy of joining them up so that it can be removed. As you can see the two halves are not yet joined.

I do like the shadows of the glazing bars in the next photo.

Pleased to see that the shadow effect you wanted has come to fruition, Alan, and that the canopy is as compact as the rest of the scene i.e. it doesn’t dominate.

If you don’t mind my saying so, the effect is a little undermined IMHO by the shadows straying onto the backscene i.e. the feeling of depth is now lost (forgive the crude emphasis as I’m sure you already knew what I meant, Alan).

Not that I’m an expert in such matters by any stretch of the imagination, but perhaps some ‘overhead lighting’ might dampen the effect or at least help to re-cast(?) the shadow away from the back scene?

Otherwise, an excellent enhancement of the overall scene, Alan. Now some judicious weathering....;)

Jonte
