Louville Lane Cameo

Thank you Jonte. I have slightly darkened the parcels office which is now almost finished, although I am thinking of putting a pitched tiled roof on it to make it look more British than American with its skylights. Not sure yet. I wonder what you think? I'll try and do a virtual mock up.

The hipped roof will work and below the front parapet a ghost sign (black on white or white on black) reading GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY LOUVILLE LANE GOODS DEPOT. It will also mean you wouldn't have to put the layout name on the fascia board.

Similar to the one in this photo from t'interweb.

Jonte what was the angle of the various sections of roof? Looks about 25-30 degrees.

Apologies for the late reply, Alan.
I’m afraid I can’t remember, but 25-30 degrees as you suggest sounds about right.

Sorry I can’t be of further help.

Hi Alan.

I took a rare visit to my old model room this afternoon where I dug up and brushed down the station building you enquirer about.

Using a pair of steel rules and some blu-tac as an improvised bevel, together with a protractor from a long-forgotten geometry set, I measured the slope of the roof which came out at 27 degrees (give it take a couple of minutes/seconds).
Looks like your best guesstimate was right after all.

Here’s a piccie of my result:

not much progress on the roof apart from this quick mock up. I think a fraction too high.

There won't be much done this weekend as will be enjoying the good weather for the next couple of days and on Sunday will be going to the Southwold exhibition

Getting there, Alan. A big improvement IMHO.

Perhaps half the height or a little over, and maybe extended to fill the whole roof space?

Enjoy the exhibition.

As stated in my last post no modelling, but a pleasant couple of days on the boat on the Norfolk Broads, and todays visit to Southwold, for me not the most interesting as there was a larger number of 0 gauge layouts and the ones that caught my eye (the cameo style ones) Heybridge Wharf 3mm and Foxcote Colliery 2mmfs I had seen before as I had with Gresley Beat (Plenty of times). I did have a chat with Tony Wright, must get to visit Little Bytham again. Still the day was made with a visit to Ms Ts fish and chip shop down by the harbour where my wife and I had superb Haddock and Chips while sitting on the Bank of the River Blythe. All in all a pretty good day.

The new roof has been built, lower than the mock up and running almost to the inside edge of the walls, it does need a little attack of the weathering powders.

and finally D6311 about to leave for its next duty with the Parcels Office in the background

Much better, Alan, IMHO. The sort of industrial building you’d see as a back drop to those old photos of Liverpool Exchange station.

Loco and scene all blend nicely.

Many thanks Jonte, I just remembered I had not put the roof over the loading/unloading bays or the handrails on the steps. They've just been painted and will be added later today when everything is dry. Then some more photos.

One advantage of the hot weather is that thinks dry very quickly, so I was able to attach the canopy and steps railings this afternoon.

And Eclipse pulls into the yard after hauling the South Devon.
