Masterpiece Models Castle and King

I have come across an auction site that may not be known to many model railway enthusiasts. Bumblebee Auctions is used by the UK Police to dispose of property that has come into their ownership. Currently they have on their site an auction for two boxed Masterpiece Models in late BR livery. King 6023 and Castle 5082. There is also a Heljan class 47. The auctions close on New Years Eve around midday. It can take up to four days to complete a rather complex registration process before being able to bid, so if you are interested start now.

Here is the link Bumblebee Auctions

Happy Christmas

Thanks for the tip!

I'm guessing that somebody, somewhere is very p155ed off at losing his/her prized (and ruddy expensive) models.

I guess the moral there is to make sure your models can be identified as yours!!!

The microdot paint is a good trick, but a printed / etched label stuck inside (and painted with fluorescent varnish) would be a pretty good start, along with a library of good quality pictures of all your models.

Season's Greetings

Looks like items have to be collected. :(

The HJ 47 is at Basingstoke Cop Shop.... we have a Member lives near Basingstoke... ;) :) :)

I wonder just how much effort was made to reunite the Castle with its owner. It was a limited edition, named locomotive. The number that were finished as 'Swordfish' can probably be counted on the fingers of one hand. A phone call by the police to Masterpiece would presumably quickly establish to whom it was sold and the trail should be straightforward from there.

That's assuming it's stolen property, it might have been impounded from some financial fraud or money laundering scheme.

Adrian is probably correct. A friend of mine is a senior copper and he once told me most of the stuff they auction off is some variant of 'the proceeds of crime' and not stolen property that they have failed to identify. You also see it on eBay by the way - that's where most of his force's IT stuff goes for instance.
