Meeting this weekend at Wells?

Some time back I wrote on my calendar at home that there was a meeting this weekend at Wells - possibly a tie up between S7 and a local club. I've mislaid my recent S7 newsletters and cannot find anything online about it. Does anyone know if there is such a meeting this Sat and if so can someone provide some details - if not I've got a pass out for the day which I'll try and use productively.

I got this from David Nicholson a few days back having expressed my interest previously:

Hi Dave
Please find attached the details for the S7 meeting on Saturday the 18th of November.
The speaker will be Tony Hill he will give talks on landscape modeling and tree production with a powerpoint presentation along with examples of his work.
I have enclosed a copy lunch menu and ordering instructions for Jan's Cafe, which is on site. Each member will need to print their name clearly on the top of their copy and indicate their lunch requirements by drawing a box around each item they require. On arrival will you please hand the marked menu to Andrew Campbell. This will ensure a speedy service at lunch time.
The program for the day in the club room has been aranged as follows:-
10-30am Doors will open with coffees and teas available on arrival.
11-15am Talk by Tony Hill followed by any questions.
12 to 1pm Questions and running session for anyone who brings a S7 loco on the embryonic "Jericho Road” layout, curtesy of Andrew Campbell.
1.0pm Cooked Lunches for all who have brought their lunch choice with them.
2-00pm Talk and tour of the available space and facilities for S7 demonstration track.
2-15pm Natter and diiscusion /general meeting from 2-15pm until 3pm regarding the future location of the Demonstration track storage and operation.
3-00pm General discussion time and more Loco running if wanted, and Tony will provide additional answers to any questions
4.00pm Doors close.

The following additional instructions along with the map should enable everyone to find us:-
The MMRG HQ is the grey windowless building with numerous aerials on the roof, next to the Premier Inn and opposite Morrisons Supermarket in Wells.
Its post code is rather obscure but according to Google is BA5 1UA
Leave the A371 turning on to Rowdens Rd and bear round to the left. Passing the Premier Inn on your left, carry straight on past the play group on your right. The “Cold store” where the MMRG HQ is located is directly in front of you. Pass through the double gates which will be open and turn immediately left, now follow the road around past the storage containers and park in a convenient spot. Do not block the access to the containers leaving enough room for the doors to be open (See cross hatching on the road). It would be helpful if you can write your mobile number on a piece of paper and leave it on the dashboard to enable anyone to contact you. Parking is free and provided you do not cause an obstruction can be anywhere on site inside the gates.
Signs bearing the letters S7 and MMRG will be placed at strategic points to assist once you have passed through the gates.
Walk down the lefthand side of the building untill you reach a set of three wooden steps that take you up onto the old loading platform. An open wood door is directly in front of you, go through the door and turn right, follow the stairs up to the first floor. Once on the landing enter the first large door on your right and go through to the second door which if closed is marked with an MMRG sign. Please enter.

If you need a copy of the menu referred to then let me know!

I received the original message on 24th October via the S7 Group Secretary:

Dear all

The S7 Southwest group are holding their next meeting on Saturday 18th
November at the premises of the MMRG (Mendip Model Railway Group) in the
city of Wells with a view to considering it as a permanent venue for their
future Southwest S7 meetings.

The facility would not only offer a permanent home for the erected
demonstration track, with opportunity of regular S7 running sessions, but it
also offers good modelling and lecture facilities along with ample free
car-parking for the membership.

Free Tea and Coffee will be available on the day if you bring a mug and the
site cafe will be open until 2 pm where an excellent lunch is available for
less than £5.

The club rooms will be open from 10-30am to 4-30pm for chatter,
discussion/inspection etc. and during which a 45 min lecture will be given
by Laurie Griffin at 11-45am.

We are extending an invitation to the S7 Severnside Group (Bristol and South
Wales) who might like to consider these premises for a future meeting with
all the facilities available. This day will give them an opportunity to see
what is here and discuss it with the local members.

To give us some ideas of numbers attending can anyone who is interested
please drop me a line at david@oxenpill.co.uk and I will then send a map to
all those interested on how to find the MMRG headquarters.

We look forward to seeing and meeting everyone on Saturday the 18th.

My Best regards to everyone

David Nicholson
Chairman MMRG.

As you can see, the speaker has changed since the original message and it’s a S7 meeting so perhaps you aren’t on the radar?

Thanks Dave, the MMRG is a small group of just 14 members, not an open club so I should be on the radar - I'm surprised if I missed this one. Perhaps I haven't been paying attention!

Fair point Jerry. I hadn’t appreciated the modest size of the group.

Thanks Dave, I do remember something about Dave N looking for a speaker so it probably is me not paying attention!! Hope you all have a good day in the bunker!

This meeting wasn't in the last S7 Newsletter because I only heard about it last week. It won't be in the next Newsletter either 'cos it will have been and gone by then, Sounds like a good idea though, all things being equal...
