Mercian models - Diesel kits question

I thought I would draw on the collective experence of the forum and ask if any was has built either the Mercian models Barkley 0-6-0DH or the Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0DM in 7mm?

I am relativley new to loco building and my experence is limited to a Judith Edge kit and 7mm 014 narrow gauge kits.

My main questions would be:

How good are the instructions (are they easy to follow)?

Are they OK for a relative novice?

I know these are all subjective questions but it would be good to find out what other people have experienced.

Hi James,

I built this one back in 2005 and it was quite straight forward, although if I were to do it again, I would add more detail. I should have the instructions tucked away somewhere so I will look out for them and make them available to you if you wish.

Happy modelling

Mike

Thanks Mike, if you do have the instructions I would love to see them. I am looking to building a small collection of industrials for a layout I have in mind. There are a couple in the Judith a Edge range I want to build in addition to the Sentinel I am building at present.

Hi James,

I'll have a look in the workshop after breakfast.

I like that...

It reminds me of Harlech Castle up on the Ffestiniog which I always had s soft spot for as my dad had a 16mm r/c model of it..

Hi,

My son Ken built one of the Mercian Barclay hydraulics quite a long time ago. It was only his 2nd S7 loco, his 1st was a scratchbuilt CoBo. The kit went together very well, see here on the West Scotland groups Foundry Layout. We took quite a few photos of the preserved one on the Foxfield before he started.

As I recall the bigest problem he had was making a robust fixing for the handrail stanchions which are a bit delecate. Model has been much admired and performs very well.

I have one of their WD 0-4-0s to build. Instructions are a bit sparse, typescript only, with basic information. I am going to copy a particular loco which is preserved quite close so easy to get pictures etc. One thing I will need to scratchbuild are the coupling rods which are very different from those supplied in the kit.

Regards,

Ian
