7mm Millicent Street

A night more of thinking that of doing this evening as we took stock on what the next few stages of work will need to be (rather than rushing in and then damaging or having to undo earlier work............ benefit of doing wrong in the past!:p ).

Still some seemingly bonefied road vehicles have arrived for consideration.......
l0.jpg
Including this tidy Morris LD - which will benefit form some flush glazing and likely a repaint into a local company livery ......... at least 2 photos have been found thus far of these vans in service locally - including a cracking one belonging to Sissons paints.....but I dont think my painting skills are up to replicating it!
l1.jpg
Also testing out the turning area in the coal yard was this Ford Thames ............. which believe it or not was a model in a European Partwork series (a Bedford TJ and Bedford OW in RAF finsh also featured in the range..........the Thames also appears with a box body too).............. nice model and with a scratch built back in place of the gas board arangement and suitable repaint will be the local coal merchants dray.
l2.jpg
I had also hoped to start conversion of this nice laser cut kit which will form part of the builders merchants yard this evening. However the kit arrived from the supplyer minus the two side walls........... mutter mutter!

Time for an update methinks, though with the time consuming buildings and locos underway progress is slow at present.

pub1.jpg
Work so far on the basic shell of the corner pub at the right hand end of the layout (based on one of the smallest of the Hull pubs - which was actually demolished in 1928).
pub2.jpg
Each of the floors will be fully finished and furnished (this is the living room with entrance door to the kitchen area)
pub3.jpg
Yup it has a fully fitted set of bar furniature (which will be barely visible through the open doors at the front corner when the building is complete................. but there again Colin in his work career as a cabinate maker has built and installed many a real bar in his time. So to him this is just a bit of fun.
pub4.jpg

The tables, brass foot rail for the bar and dartboard for the wall are yet to be installed.

Finding 7mm scale glasses and beer bottles to stock the bar is proving a bit difficult though!

Pint of 'Hull Brewery Mild' anyone?

Lovely modelling Rippers!! So much so, that I almost feel as if I could be sat in that bar.

I don't suppose you have a bottle of 'Brown' to go with that 'Mild' do you?

Cheers

Sadly when we do the other end we are going to have to move the work bench, reading room and buffet table to a new location!:D

Pub looks fantastic lads, I know it's long gone but it reminds me of a pub I went to a couple of times up the top of Strickland Street (with work not socially :)) ) at the top of Hessle Road near Dock. I forget the name of the pub but it was all that was left and the building was like an end terraced property and all that was left of a load of terraced housing up there? Anyone remember the name ?

Layout is coming on leaps and bounds

Something you may wish to note Mally, never start a gluing job at the side of the baseboard nearest to you! From then on you are leaning across wet glue and you stand a good chance of getting it on your clothes!

Mick - would that be Strickland Street Arms, otherwise known as Stricky Arms? Think I did it with work as well 'cept you have a tad more clout than me.

How do you get hold of these European part works with 1/43 trucks ?

Phill :)

Neil has already given you the best guide. Ebay does indeed appear to be the best source of these models (though some have popped up at toyfairs or in pile it high bargain shops here). Ebay searches such as 'Atlas editions' 'le reute blue' , 'tintin diecast' etc or 'Ixo' - who make many of the models turns most of them up.

Most of mine came form sellers in Spain or the Netherlands.

On top of which there are a few forums dedicated to the collecting and modifying of theese models such as
http://www.scale143.com/viewforum.php?f=9

Where you can see just how many different ranges and models there are about. Some useful stuff too and often quite different from the often repetative and dupicative standard shop ranges here.

The "Stricky Arms" still survives and is signed by that name. It is the only original premise left in that street all others are factory units.
I have been in a couple of times when I was invited to performances by a work colleague. On each occasion I took one of my daughters with me knowing that they both would get up and sing. I couldn't take both of them at the same time, however as the pub's not big enough! My eldest, a singing teacher, demonstrated her ability to hit E above top C and my work mate said afterwards, "The only way I could get that high would be to use a pair of steps!"

Electrical wizardry all but done as of Wednesday P.M. I should be able to finish on Thursday night or Friday morning. No rest for the wicked. :'(
Rest not taken, wiring now finished and signed off Thursday 2.30pm. Bonus card in for payment.

pub2.jpg

The pub corner (with small printworks building to the rear) is starting to take shape.

pub1.jpg

Though progress as a whole has slowed (patly as the building stake time - some of the windows - which are all scratch built - are taking 12 plus hours each!;)

Though on top of that other ideas and projects we are involved in have syphoned off available modelling time. (plus we have Hospital Gates to reawaken in tome for its new show appearance in a couple of weeks).

No we havent forgotten about Millicent Street. We simply took a few months off to dash of a quick 2mm scale layout! oh and this..............

hg2.jpg

Well its nearly done........... (spot the missing bits).:D

On the layout side Colin has been cacking on with the structures for the frontage of the layout and Alex is up to the proverbial in ways to make roadway sets and pavements of the correct pattern. Though at present the only sign of change is this typically neat section of fencing around the coal yard.........;)
