As do I, Dave. I tried Fn/F5 and that didn't work so I suspected it was something I'd done, ie finger trouble. I'm pleased to see it isn't, and to view the associated picture!

Horrible weather today has kept me indoors and here is another picture prior to cleaning up.. Sanding gear in place, there are some nice little clevis castings in the kit. So I solder them all in place, then drill the cranks for the pins for the rods. Scratched up crank for that just to the right of the nameplate. Nice weigh shaft casting too, you can't see the return spring from here. Oil pots at the front from tube and brass wire - the tops need flattening. ATC conduit with clip made for the half etch runners on the fret. Anything missing is my lack of GW expertise.

I've been staring at this one for a bit, there is something not quite right. The ejector pipe has to be parallel with the running plate, but using the moulded holes it was about 2mm too high at the front. It can't go any higher as it would be higher than the spectacle and block the washouts. There would be some significant carving to get the boiler slightly lower, but I don't think that's it. I suspect the smokebox lubricator is too high as it looks very close to the chimney, it should be much closer to the ejector pipe. So that might have to come off and I'll put a brass one on... Holding up the model against photos indicates that is the way to go. I'll sleep on it.

Oh - and if anyone knows what the left hand injector and pipework should look like, please help! From the photos, it's not like the right hand one that peeps out from behind the step....

You have been here before - RHS is a single live steam injector, probably a 8X one; LHS is an exhaust steam injector with live steam supplementary feed (hence three steam cocks on the front face of the steam fountain). I posted photos of the exhaust steam injector and pipework at the time.

Could you point me please to your post on exhaust steam injectors. I am new and missed it, and you have 2000 posts. I am building a Star Class.

I have spoken to John Borkowski who owns Masterpiece Models, he has said that he shall have a model of a Grange on his stand at Telford and you shall be able to study how the exhaust injector is mounted to the frame plate.

I lowered the cover on the smokebox, that looks better, as does the handrail. There is still some tidying up to do which always shows up after I've posted the photo. So a few bits and pieces to fit, a bracket to allow the vac pump to be removed, brakes, whistles, reverser etc. Then she'll be ready for a track test.

While I'm still hot from Enborne Grange, I thought I'd build the next Collet 4000 gallon tender for next years GW commission. I know I will forget some of the things I've done, so it makes sense.

I often find tender flares tricky, but it went well using my home made bending bars. The top edge just goes in far enough to touch the screws and then the side is bent over to 45 degrees using that stiff brass angle backed up by an alloy rod. It's done in stages, ones side, then the other. The bending bars have a rounded edge on one side, as you can see at the end.

One thing I've found is that the etched top seems bit short, so you either end up with a gap in front of the tool boxes.. or at the back above the flare. So I decided to cut it at the coal separator. It puts the filler etc a little further back, but I'd rather that than try and fill the gap that would be at the top of the flare. The odd lines are from the resistance solderer - they will disappear.

Hi Tony,

I see you use an RSU like I do judging by the snail trail, I think a lot of folk use them only like a spot welder, whereas they are quite handy for applying overlays and longer seams.
