Cynric, in post #43 I provided what I think are the relevant dimensions for the solebars and longitudinal girders of the EZ floor moulding - any idea yet if your Mk.1 truss etch is compatible with the EZ floor?

regards, Graham

Sorry i missed that. I dont think they will fit easily, with some considerable bashing to the EZB underframe. ill try and get some shots of the jltrt underframe when I get back to the workshop.

just received an email to say that Hugh Longworth - of DMU & Steam allocation fame is producing a book - due out next June on Mk1 & Mk2 stock, 309 pages, £45 - more details in the latest Ian Allan catalogue - oh and it's £45 so start saving.

cheers

Railway Books are cheap compared to professional publications.

I have just had to pay for my latest (single volume) tax book.... £99.95.

Not happy.

The Parkin books will take some beating IMO ... Not got the MK11 book but the MK1 book deserves it's unofficial title as 'The MK1 Bible' :)

:) As promised here is a shot of the JLTRT floor, a totally different principle to the EXB

and this is what I am drawing.

It is designed to provide a more secure mounting ( glued and pinned) and faster (for me!) assembly. Im now off to watch some gyro gimbals being cnc'd :)

Thank you Cynric. I can see how the design produces the longitudinal angle section... how do you produce the angle section of the cross-girders?

Some strip with a half etch rebate, soldered on top, and some handy T section for the uprights. its not a 100% accurate replica rather something where I can repeat the operation numerous times in a sensible time frame ;)

Thank you for this - I can see now how you shall create the "sloping" part of the cross-girders, a neat idea. Not sure yet that I understand where the T-section fits in... did notice this nonchantly placed in the photo.

How are you progressing on getting a trussed underframe assembled to a JLTRT floor moulding?

regards, Graham

[Note to the Flying Squad - if this post is not appropriate to this thread then please move to my workbench thread, Ta!]

EZB kits offer an etch for the external window frames with which prototype carriages were fitted from circa 1958 (information from Bob Reid). The EZB instructions describes a method of fitting the brass etches to the coach sides (which are made in ABS) and recommends that the builder uses a cyano super-glue. Cyano does not do too well with brass / styrene joins hence I am a tad wary of a CA adhesive for our Mk.1 builds.

What adhesives have WT readers used for securing brass etches to ABS?

What works? What does not work?

regards, Graham

Evostic works for me. I wouldnt use cyano as it has no flexibility and can crack.

The section was an early idea testing the feasibility of a better fixing method for the truss - ignore! The whole lot will be glued and pined in place

this is the bogie almost ready

I find that Cyano works well when fitting easy-build window frames, just make sure you fit the frames the correct way round.

Those are looks good. If you're making the trussing available could you put me down for 2 coaches worth and 4 bogies worth please?

Cheers
