I picked up issue number 197 today - features classes 21, 22 and 29.

Some great pictures and a ton of info - well worth a look chaps

... - I can't help thinking that the Title is somewhat inaccurate, though.... considering how long ago those Classes were withdrawn, if nothing else!! :D

I do hope you're not going to start the 'what is Modern Image' debate:shit:;)

I've been very ready to criticise this publication in the past, but credit where it's due, this one is a cracker. I'd say the 22 material is even stronger than for the diesel-electric ones, but really, it's worth the price even if you only want it for one or the other.

Ian, concur that the WR gets more exposure in this volume, nice to see a lot of new (to me) images of class 22 but I was disappointed that there was little or no Anglia or London area photos (depots excluded) of class 21.

The wealth of class 22 info and pictures bodes well for future volumes of the other hydraulic classes, if they can find that many pictures of what is generally considered a camera shy class then they should exceed above and beyond for the other classes.

I am however less than enamoured with the drawings supplied :(.

I wonder if they will roll the class 23 in with the Deltics, hope not on two accounts, one less room for Deltic photos, two probably compress the class 23 to fit the volume and thus rob people of views.

Noooo no no no..... I saw the wreckage of twisted knickers 'over there' over that subject some while ago... :D

To be fair, it's not the debate that's the problem, it's the number of folk who get involved in it. Once it gets to that circular point (where folk dont bother to read what's already been posted, and steam just to 'have their say' with arguments that have already been countered), it gets very tiresome.
