Hi Brian,
Thanks for the photos, I just can't find a really decent shot of a Clayton exhaust. Would the Clayton have the two round vents to the right of the port?

Apart from the Clayton mentioned earlier here are pictures of a Spanner on 47105 and a Spanner with the extra panel behind it on 47461 and a universal on 47367 which have both ports blanked off as it's an NB loco. Also a Stones on 47272 downloaded from 47.co.uk's website.

Thanks Brian, useful pics!
I decided to play around with the louvres today. Didn't get far as the recesses were around 5 mm short and the louvres wouldn't fit. So an hour or so spent faffing and filing, and now they fit perfectly.
The outer cover hides a few nicks.
Just can't decide on open or closed. Or one open one closed :)
As the fans won't run, I guess they will probably be best closed.

Not too much progress today.
I got the louvres and covers soldered in place, then popped the body on the tanks to see how it looks :)
There are aspects of this kit that are a tad annoying. I feel there is a lot of filing, cutting and fettling just to get where the kit should have been when produced.
On the other hand, I really do like this kit very much, and will probably go for their 31.

Looking good, but hate to say this, the radiator louvres are not installed correctly ,they should rotate and the upper edge of each vane fits underneath the one above, on your set up you have four completely on top and three underneath, when they rotate the top ones will impact the lower ones and vice versa, think of a Venetian blind affair.

Here's a photo showing the vanes shut and you can see that they are all layered, like feathers or roof tiles.

Here's an oblique blow up which shows a little better how they overlap

Sorry to be a bearer of bad news, but you'd of found out one day, probably once it'd all been painted and you'd not be happy, given the amount of care and effort you've clearly put in so far.

Or should it have this type of radiator vents?

......it would have been much easier if it had :)
Anyway, 4 hours spent this morning, removing one side, re jigging the louvres, and importantly remedying another mistake...the covers were fixed a tad low.
To correct this has entailed tin snips on the louvres and cutting disk to the body side grille recess. Looking far better, will post a pic when cleaned up!!
Many thanks Mick for pointing out my error, saved lots of problems further along the build

Thanks Mick.
I don't know if I have been a tad unlucky with the casting of my kit or has anyone else had to grind out a few mm from the top of the grille recesses?
Also had to remove a load of flash and lengthen both recesses.
It looks a little untidy at present, once the louvres and covers are back in place all looks ok.
I found without grinding out the top of the recess, I had to fit the grille covers too low otherwise the bottom louvre was hidden, and the frame showed at the top.
There is a cut out in the panel behind the fan grilles for the hinge of the grille cover to locate.
