Mr Tiger Viking - G1 1/32nd Modelling Workshop

Hello All
Its about time I entered something serious on this excellent forum (well done Cynric)
So here goes, It is my intention to at least enter on a monthly basis the work I have achieved during the month around modelling in Gauge 1 1/32nd.
However having just moved house the current Mrs Tiger Viking is planning the decorating programme for me, my Daughter is ageing yearly by the day !! and work :headbang: is the other time stealer
So to start off with then is D854 Tiger which is from the Fred Phipps range

It was my intention for all my locomotives that run/operate on Worcester Road to run in the acurate liveries for the BR timetable year of May 1970 to May 1971, however one exception to this will be D854 Tiger which will be finished in BR Green small yellow panel, in a filthy weathered condition circa 1969, just before she entered Swindon Works for an overhaul and a repaint into BR Blue, the reason for this is simple I allready have a Warship in this final BR Blue livery - 862 Viking.

Enough rabbit from me, a picture or a series of pictures paint a thousand words so they say, so I will try and let the images do the talking......

Image 1 - Shows the front end detail added, along with the scratch built plasticard MU holder plates and Coupling kick plate.

Image 2 - Shows the number alignment, data panel, driver reporting card holder and Prestolith added to the shaffe/lower body line.

Image 3 - The Tiger nameplate from Diane Carney range, BR Emblem, and body side stripe.

Image 4 - The NBL Cooling fan

Image 5 - The NBL Exhaust ports, note the Swindon Engine and pre heater exhaust are filled in.

Image 6 - Bogie etches

Image 7 - Chassis

Image 8 - Warship body

Happy New Year

Regards

I will look forward to this one Steve , If you don't mind me asking, could we have a break down of the cost of completing on of these kits ?

Hi Steve, me too, really looking forward to this . Its a shame that the Fred Phipps kit for the warship isnt available in O gauge :headbang: Please keep the pics coming though of the progress.

Modelling on a £1200 table.
Wow!! that looks like an excellent kit :thumbs: The resin mouldings look far crisper than the 7mm Model Express one im doing at the moment  :headbang: :headbang: Ha ha, think the Fred Phillips one looks a far superior kit, agree with Rob that its a shame he does'nt produce one in 7mm. I too would be interested  to know what a kit/project like this costs  Ross.........

My d63 is ?475 kit, ?150 turned cast wheels and I'm budgeting ?160 for two motor/gearbox units. It's not hugely more expensive than a JLTRT.

Trust me boys, when you see one of Mr TVs models in the flesh all resistance crumbles!! The extra mass makes a huge difference, my conclusion is that if you want the feel of big hot lumps of locomotives then bigger is better.

Is the Warship the same price ? (just out of interest of course )........must stick to 7mm.......must stick to 7mm...........must stick to 7mm  :))

The Warship body looks excellent and I'm not into diesels. By comparison with G1 , O gauge prices are stupid.  I've seen a complete train, pannier tank, trucks and brake van in G3 for less than an O gauge engine. We're being ripped off left right and centre.

Graham,

Do you think you could elaborate on that?  I mean which manufacturers?

And some of us are VAT Registered [like MMP, DJH, JLTRT] - which may or may not apply to these G1 diesel kits.  If it does not, then imagine 20% on top of the ?6-700 - that is a bit of a price hike for which any hapless manufacturer trading above the VAT Reg. threshold would not be to blame.

Before we go over the cost discussion (again!  :)) ) could I suggest a new thread in members for such a discussion  :D

I  don't think that's too bad, it's the cost of what I would call a reasonable length train behind it which put me off G1........A Hymek would be a useful addition to this scale

no answer to the question is there a Western or any other diesel locomotives available in G1

Ian

Hello CME, Sorry for the delay I took the oportunity to get some modelling completed, Other Diesel locomotives available in G1 1/32nd are from the Fred Phipps Range, Warship (?550), D6300`er (?550), D6100`er (?550) along with his excellent Mk1 coach kits (?550), Fred is planning to do a D600`er next.
Bachmann do a lovely 03 Shunter, and Mercian do a Ruston 165 Shunter, However in Gauge 1 (10mm) you can get a Western/Deltic/Ingo3  (However I believe these to be blow ups of the old 7mm RJH range.

Cheers

Hello Phill
Just a quick reply to your question that 28ten has really answered for me, the cost is comparative to 7mm, that was deliberate on Fred`s part so he could entice either 4mm modellers wanting to move up a scale and also to get the 7mm boys thinking about a switch to an even bigger scale, what you have to remember here is that Fred produced the D6300 kit long before Pete Waterman came along with his JLTRT range (for you 7mm boys Pete has met with Fred for all the drawings for the D6300 & the Warship) so go back to over 10 years and Fred was converting the Cheltenham Diesel Hydraulic group who modelled in 7mm at the time instantly  to Gauge 1 1/32nd with the sheer quality of the NBL type 2, everything you required to make the model was in the kit, no having to scratchbuild cab interiors and back bulkheads and to compliment this with the Warship (the quality is second to none) for Fred Phipps kit = EBTTRT ? Even Better Than The Real Thing !

Again you can use Mark Wood for the wheels, along with your favourate Motor/gearbox that you use in the 7mm range, I have been using RG7 32:1 ratio.

Cheers
