NER Hoppers

Hi to be honest they are LNWR etches that I got from Mike Osbourne when I put them against the plastic ones in the kit they were a match so I gave them a try

A few years back (2009 I think) I took some photos of a 20T hopper at Tanfield. Due to the poor state if the bodywork I could get an inside view without climbing on it (which would probably have been frowned upon for all sorts of reasons). Its interesting to note that the longitudinals at the side of the hopper are steel rather than wood.

If you compare the two drawings - the NER one shows timber longitudinals, the LNER one has them in steel, thereby dating the Tanfield wagon.

I like the internal detail on the MR 5 plank. I presume that you added it before you built it? I built one years ago in FS not sure how to add the detail now its built. Might just have too get an etch to go on to one of our SDJR versions.

Yes I detailed it before I built it. There was an article in MRJ some years ago by Barry Norman which shows how it rather looked rather good so I got one which was how I moved to 7mm

Still doing these hopper, they really are impressive models. Im putting the letters

A bit more progress on the hopper. With the letters once transfer is in place I soak it and when the letters are loose I float them. Then mové them above where I want them to be and put a weak pva mix on and then position the figure. I do this because I was fed up with them falling off.

Some weathering on the second hopper, I tend to leave it for a day or two and Just make small changes
