Now then! - as they say as a greeting in these parts!

After a lot of pokes and prods from existing members on here and few weeks of nosing around the forum I thought it far time I introduced myself.

Im Neil, and although my interests vary a few years either way - I do tend towards modelling the late 60's - pre TOP's early 70's..with a mix of new blue and old green/maroon. With a smattering of Industial stuff of the same period for good measure.

That said although I have been involved in the design and construction of several exhibition layouts that have toured both here and on the european circuit - the main contenders that I have to take the main blame for have been the 4mm scale industrial based 'Walker Marine', 'Carlton Metals' and more recently the 7mm scale 'Hospital Gates' all of which hail from an earlier time frame. The latter even set in the Big 4 era! ;)

Im not a WR modeller per'se - my interests (like those of the highly productive group im a member of) tend to be a bit eclectic and focus on whatever particular project we have taken on. Though this has been known to extend to GWR stock in 7mm scale and WR in 4mm relating to current layouts we have on the go at present...... a couple of shots of which can be seen here.

Yep that the one  - the b&w shot above is one of the very same layout - our first attempt at 7mm scale modelling and still very much on the go, (its a relatively new layout), though you wont have seen it about much as we limit it to a maximum of 4 shows a year. One of which this year was over in Belguim!.

The colour shot in my first post is a new one of our micro china clay scheme St Minions (which is a mere 2ft 6ins in length!...well excluding fiddle yards.).

Welcome along  Walker Marine was/is a favourite of mine, because of the way it reversed the viewing ie high running line at the foreground and lower level in the back, very clever.
There is a small pictur of Hospital gate in the GOG comic this month.

I thought it looked vaguely familiar... the layout that was the direct  inspiration, of course, of Pattingham by our very own Makhis... ;)

You mean this kind of look? ;D

The simple anwer as to why the model was designed and built with the back to front kind of viewpoint was that the prototype on which it is based was most often photographed showed the kind of view. Hence the desire to capture the same look in model form so as to make it more familair to the viewer. (that and a personal desire to experiment with a 'different' kind of layout format. :)

Maintaining the recognised scenes and views is something I have carried over to subsequent model designs. Anyone familiar with the classic shots of the Whittingham Hospital Railway station, yard and engine shed will be able to pick the same vistas out on the Hospital Gates model which is heavily influenced by the location. Simples! :D

Yep the very same!

In fact if you ask him about a prior 4mm layout of his you might find that it was influenced by this other layout of mine too!

Though his version was a bit warmer to look at! ;)

Im waiting to see what he does with Hospital Gates design next! ;D
