On going meetings and discussions of the S7 group in the North East

Well, erm as the title asks...

I am based in North Shields and find it hard to visit the S7 meets which are normally in the south. I have been thinking about this very question over the last year or so and have been prompted recently, so let me know if you are interested, and or local. Then maybe we can think about how it might work.

If there are people interested I will update this post to create a list possible members...

I look forward to comments.

As there has been some interest I thought I would update this initial post with the potential members and their location:

Simon C.- North Shields
Mick - York
David F. - Middlesbrough
David B. - Snainton
Paul R. - Durham
Ken C. - Lincoln
James - Beverley
Simon - Darlington

I stand to be corrected, but when I was on the S7 committee we had a a policy of supporting anyone who wanted to set up an area group. It may well be worth contacting The Secretary, Rob Thompson, who is a member of this forum and may well spot this post anyway.

Heather,

Thanks for your post. I am aware of said support. I posted the above to see how much interest there maybe here. I am also following up other route for members in the area.

Thank again for your post.

Simon,

You may find that 7mm modellers in general could be interested in a local modelling group especially if that group was looking towards helping with a BR(NE) roundi-roundi - that is what has happened with a couple of the bigger get togethers south of the Wash.

Wish you success in this venture, Graham

Hi Simon,

I would at least sign up to be a member in such a group as like you struggle
to get to all the meetings and the group I'm a member of is three and a half hours away. Hopefully there will be more interest in addition to you or I?

I'm sure you will get quite a few interested in aN.E. area group, I know there are some who are not WT members.
Good luck.

Graham,

There already is a 7mm group up here, NEGOM which have a roundi roundi O gauge layout:

http://www.btmrs.co.uk/affiliated-societies.html

However, there have been words of Scale Seven 'don't waste your time'. But as you know Graham I went through the decision making process when I moved up here and as I am starting out in 7mm I want to build stuff as accurately as possible (within my capabilities), which is why I chose S7 rather than the maybe more accessible O Gauge...

Don't get me wrong I am open to any 7mm modellers of any experience level joining us... The more the merrier!!!

I'm in Middlesbrough and currently do P4 but am starting to dabble in 7mm. If there's going to be a localish S7 group I'd be very interested in coming along.

Cheers

You've got a plug in the Scale7 Newsletter which has just gone to the printers. Let's see if that brings any further response...

Hi,

Have just caught up with the original email, and hence this thread.

As someone just starting to find a way in 7mm modelling, I would be interested in any discussions re a new Area Group. Have sent you an email.

Hi Number Cruncher,

Thanks for your forum reply. We have a mention in the next S7 Newsletter and will then see what response we have. Obviously with the possible geographical spread of the North East any meeting location would need to be somewhere in the middle wherever possible.

We have people from York, Newcastle and Tees Valley area, as well as someone from Lincoln who is interested in being a member of this group... The success of the group may depend on how far people are willing to travel and how often the meets are.

Any thoughts are welcome...

Cheers

What you say about criteria for success is probably true, so you need to think about how the group manages the location(s) and frequencies of meetings. If you look at recent reports from area group meeting reports in the S7 Newsletters (explore the "Members Only" download section for past reports) then you will see that at least one area group (Bristol / Cardiff corridor) has more than one "regular" location with meetings moving around those locations.

Response to date is encouraging.

Hi Simon,

Apologies for not posting here sooner but I've had a really busy couple of weeks. There seems to be enough interest initially, shall we arrange a first meeting to discuss progress over a brew or five ?

Mick,

I think that would be a good start, does anyone have ideas/options of where the first meeting should be?

That sounds like a good idea, it is their railway Exhibition this weekend, on Saturday, could make the visit more interesting???

Thoughts anyone?
