P48 for Cotton Belt: Roster addition SW1200

In the box is a pre bent hood and all the brass parts to assemble the basic loco including chassis. There is also some cast detail parts such as tank ends, exhaust outlet, sand filler caps etc

There is only one version of the cab, the modeller needs to adapt it for the specific loco. Not too difficult and it keeps the cost reasonable.

Speaking of cost, Mike had confirmed the loco and chassis at £185 and the trucks at £40

Hope that helps

Dash 8-40CW.... phew! the SP didn't have any....

........but the Santa Fe did - with their distinctive gull wing cab roof.... :)

I presume the cab in the kit is this one.

Well, Brian Daniels' test build looked like this:

Looks good to me although I can't see how well the intake screens are done - something we've been talking about, Dave.

On this kits the hood side grills are etched in the same way that the other Gilmaur u boats are done.

The radiator top grills are individually etched

Colin is such a good salesman that I'm down for two, a CSX Ex Conrail YN2 with classification lights and a UP version and I may drop for a third with ATSF gull wing roof .....ok I will if they have any left and I'm not divorced after the first two lol.

What would be really nice is a CSX AC60 twin spark YN2, the only engines I think to carry the yellow with blue border CSX logo.

I've only ever seen one but impressive is an understatement, as I've said before, they never actually move, they just pull the world underneath them to get where they need to go. The O gauge model isn't big enough to add a decent sound set up, you'd need four of Daves speakers in this kiddy.

And I've wanted one ever since!
It wouldn't take much to convert the cab to the ATSF gullwing.
No it wouldn't ;)

Looking back through the files from 2013 I've 40 or so detail shots in a mini walk around to help y'all get the details right.

I'm sure I'll work something out - even if it's a set of Spendors or Kefs or B&Ws or Missions or......

I'd just have to make sure my soldering is solid to avoid the walls of Jericho .

GP35

This turned up today....:D

An Atlas 2R GP35..... and yes the lid has been removed already to look at the guts. Interestingly the motor trucks have been installed elephant style so the pick ups and gear trains are all on the same side. Unlike the Dash 8-40B where they are mounted mirror fashion and the gear trains diagonally opposite each other.

....... and I've already checked the leading dimensions, however..... some of the data on internet have the truck centres at 34' and I came across this snippet confirming 32'.

The obvious improvement from the photo below is the ride height - needs lowering by about 3mm.
GP35 003.jpg

This will eventually be breathed upon to bring it up scratch and to finish it something like this....

And if it fails then one of these three....

Ooo, I do like a GP35. @mickoo started work on a GP35 chassis detail job that might provide some ideas, but I reckon there's some work to do there. It'll be interesting to see what it looks like once the paint is off...

Anyway, it'll be an impressive, noisy, loco in 1:48!

I've only got the frames and trucks of a 3R GP35 so it'll need a full body though that BN one would be just as good a project

Beware the frames as the GP35 is where they changed from dropped centres to full flat floor part way through production, might be more details in my thread but dimly recall finding a build list and seeing which models had which floor by build date somewhere.

SP had a whole load of these and Diesel Era ran a three part series on them with lots of info and details.

Thanks James.... that's phase 1a1 for #6502 with a centre drop frame.

Out with the styrene.....

....but I must make some more headway on the Dash 8-40B.

Spent the best part of this afternoon making a pair of these...

......uncoupler lift bars from 0.5mm brass wire..... and they do work, naturally .

I've also added the MU hose accesses to the plough.

Additional pipe work under the chassis (brass wire) and a new brake chain guide (brass tube and scrap brass etch).

Representations of the traction motor cables (solder) - this is the front and the same has been applied to the rear.

....... or Truck on (tyke) - Marc Bolan and T.Rex 1973.

I have spent some time today making up brake gear for the trucks. The slack adjusters are made from brass and inserted into a tube which has been screwed to the truck frame. The brake blocks were robbed from the PMPRP class 33 Lima detail kit.

Also fitted is the microbore silicon tube for the sand hoses and air brake lines to the trucks just to see the effect. One thing is evident, the sand pipes need shortening on the trucks.
