Painting and lining

Lemons contain citric acid, acetic acid is found in vinegar. I think home-brew shops are the source for citric acid, which can also be used as a pickle for items which have been silver soldered or for cleaning them prior to soldering, a much safer alternative than sulphuric acid.

True. Where was my head this morning.

Sorry Howard - I should have been more careful with my wording - 'non phosphoric acid based!'. I wonder what is actually in the on line stuff..

I think its based on citric acid, but whatever it is it works just fine and is a lot less aggressive than the phosphoric acid based fluxes.

No worries! If it is citric acid based, I might well give it a go - others seem to be finding it to be worthwhile. I do wish these suppliers would be a bit more open about what they are selling to help us make informed choices - it is not as if we are going to go to the trouble of brewing our own after all! I suspect a lot of us just stick to what we know, not because it is good, but because we just don't know what "the other stuff" is all about.

Anyone happen to know what Carr's brown is.... Works really well on stainless!

Best wishes,

Howard

And almost finished, hopefully by the weekend, far prettier ;)

Well, I like the 'J', but the 'D' is a little more graceful. Just the cab interior to grain by the looks of it, very nice.

The 'J' is Sunset, I guess? And the 'D' from David Andrews/Javelin? If I'm right about the 'D', that's an OK build and some neat work to keep all the metalwork clean for SECR outline.

Fair bit more than cab interior Steph, boiler bands which are now on, lining to buffer housings, oh! And most of the other side. You are correct, Sunset models loco.

Cliff, the painting is easy it's taking the thing to bits and then reassembly that's the pain. Luckily I remembered to photograph it before I took it to pieces or you may have received a bag of valve gear bits;)

Knocking on 3ft long Dave, about the same as a G1 Duchess
