Thanks Warren. I'll try a liquid flux on my next kit.

I've always used Carrs green label, totally happy with it although I've just tried building o gauge on line water based flux which is also very good. Thanks Warren. I'll try a liquid flux on my next kit.

I've used the O gauge on line water based stuff for a few years. Works fine, and much less noxious than phosphoric acid..for sensitive noses...
Lemons.I think it is more about the lack of phosphoric acid.
But what is used in its place I do not know.
Lemons contain citric acid, acetic acid is found in vinegar. I think home-brew shops are the source for citric acid, which can also be used as a pickle for items which have been silver soldered or for cleaning them prior to soldering, a much safer alternative than sulphuric acid.
Sorry Howard - I should have been more careful with my wording - 'non phosphoric acid based!'. I wonder what is actually in the on line stuff..
And almost finished, hopefully by the weekend, far prettier
Big black American thingy completed today
Got to rechip the J class now it has had a daub of paint on it. Noisy when all done.
