It's a shame you can't view them at a large-ish size any more, or save them to future reference.  I'm glad I saved pretty much all of the ones I needed from Fotopic.

The usual work-arounds don't seem to work either.

Dear All

Thank you to those whom welcomed the return of my site  ;) .

I would be interested to know what features of the mess  :headbang: that was my fotopic site were preferred over a site where collections can be gathered together - so all GWR can be found from http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/gwr

It has a really good search facility - I use it daily as the way I get around on my own site.

The way to get a full screen view is 'Slideshow'.

Unfortunately, I was not able to recover all of my collections, and do not have good scans of many of them - I damaged a hard disc sometime ago and the older computer that I had a lot backed up on also crashed.

Yes, it is no longer easy to save a photograph, although linking is enabled. You have found some work arounds (I may have to start using the ugly watermarking that is automatically available  ). This site costs money to run and purchasing prints is how it is funded. At 42 pence it is reasonable (others usually charge around £1) for the same. If the scan being requested is not suitable for printing I am automatically notified and do a new replacement scan. If it doesn't pay for itself I may have to close it

Paul,

It's good to get your perspective; many thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I'll have a good look round in the next week or so, I think I remember a photo or two of interesting pre-grouping carriages in Southern Departmental service being on the old 'site.  It'd be nice to have good copies of those, particularly the re-framed LBSCR vehicle(s) that were used in the Eastleigh breakdown train.

Best wishes,

Steph

I, personally, think that the new site is much better, and much more logically laid out.  It's certainly easier to find what I'm after.

And the fotopic site  took an age to load  :vista: this is much quicker.

Whatever the site I'm just glad they are back!

That is an interesting response, as fotopic was simply a long long list. I hope the Guvnor does not mind me replying.
What I have done with Zenfolio is arrange it like a series of computer directories with files (the collections) within them. It works best by starting from the beginning (and it is very important to ignore the Galleries. (It does not seem possible to stop these being seen by the public whilst allowing all of the rest to be seen). So we start with rolling stock vers all of the other subjects - like the general railway, or Mostly Autumn, then all BR are together, all GWR together etc. The BR ones are sorted into the main types as used by BR in their wagon audits with the sub sets within them. POs, international, departmental etc are all also separated out.
What is great is it allows easy cross referencing, so for the first time, all of the stock with an internal user number can appear in that section as well as within the type itself. Similarly a vehicle used with a crane can be associated with the cranes as well as in the collection for the wagon type itself. As an example, many WR cranes had brake vans (as mess vans and bolster wagons as runners. So the runner and mess van are with the crane but also in GWR bolsters and GWR brake vans.
Even better is that navigation is easy because the position of each collection is shown near the top of the page, and to go back say from GWR brake van to all GWR stock, or all Railway wagons or all photographs,  takes just one click, because each part can be highlighted - it is a URL in its own right.

I  hope a bit clearer.
