Smart idea. Here it's cheaper to get cupboards made to order, than use kitchen units. They seem to price them and beds at if they were a commodity. The price changes daily and are generally 3 month delivery.

That’s a railway room to dream of. Poor Kelly Bray has to live in an out building that is not providing the best environment. Hopefully in the next house.......

Yes, very lucky to have this space inside the house. Current activities are to make the trainset more domestically pleasing (ie tidy, junk out of sight and space for a guest bed).

The advantage of working outside the domestic environment is that you can make lots of mess and noise, and don't have to worry about paint and glue smells. On balance though I prefer the luxury of an inside room.

As you appear to have affixed the baton to the rear wall, this does seem to be an adequate solution.

However, the subsequent access to the aforementioned electrical sockets does now seem even more likely to result in damage to the cranium.

Thought about that too...

From an office closure some years back, I inherited a very decent extension cable with some kind of filter built in, which resides on the corner of my workbench, and into which are plugged the power supply for the layout, a couple of desk lamps, and the 4-way into which the soldering iron or other power tools get plugged.

It has a solid clunky on-off switch, which is used to isolate everything when I’m not playing.

And MrsD has been briefed to use said switch, and never to turn the lights out if I have forgotten to, as that might just leave something undesirably hot, on...

As a few folk were very concerned about me banging my head I've reduced the risk a little by reducing the frame width by 100mm:

The added bonus is that the rail is less obvious:

Bit of a pig to do as to get the big long screws out from the joints (the metal brackets are just an additional strengthener) the whole lot had to be unscrewed from the wall...

Coming along nicely Chris.

Thanks Grahame, should look quite presentable when complete.

At that point I can transfer everything over to the new cupboards, dispose of the old ones and get the spare bed in.

The downside then is that at that point there's no more excuses for not cracking on with the heavy duty decorating of the bedrooms and landing. Modelling will drop off for a bit as a result.
