Agree with being presentable Chris, especially when you've done all the transfering.

Despite being a downside for a while it'll be a cracking room into which the layout is housed eventually.

My little layout is slow but enjoy the time I'm spending doing various bits, as you may have gathered, I'm flitting between various aspects but eventually it'll come together.

Cheers Grahame, when I do get back in here after the decorating interlude I really must concentrate on finishing off some of the many little projects I'm flitting between.

I've done well to resist making a start on further loco kits - must finish the 02 and the 1366 first. I could also do with finishing the six buildings that are nearly complete before starting any more.

On the plus side, now that I've finally got the whole 5.3m wall for Pencarrow, I can build the fiddle yard. That means the track can be finished off.

Are you fixing the back edge of the boards to the rails at all?

And how will you set up the backscene?

First answer is no - the boards don't really move unless you actually want to shift them, which I will do when working on them.

Backscene - will be suspended from a higher rail fixed to the wall or Velcro.

The photo wall is great at keeping me generally focussed and should mean that the end result looks vaguely like a Railway in the period / location.

I've also got several lever arch files full of my photos and scans from various sources that help.

Talking of BWT. I was looking at books last night. I really fancy building the square splasher one, can't say I've seen a model of one in any scale.

I think John Greenwood of 2mm Wadebridge fame has built one as 3329. Was an earlier predecessor of this model ‘Bodmine’ as appeared in Railway Modeller in the 70s?

I’ve not seen one of 3329 / 30586 in 7mm. As you know, 7mm models of BWTs are rare in any case.

To get them to look right it will. Don't leave them to the apprentice I have a couple of times, you end up with pilot holes all the way through, handles in the wrong place and screws poking through.

And with the added advantage that you won’t have a pile of doors looking balefully at you when you’ve put the baseboards on top, and you’re all full of mojo.

Why didn’t / don’t you put the cupboard carcasses forward another 6” or whatever so the doors are only slightly recessed from the layout front? It’ll probably look nicer, and be easier to access the cupboards. Jus5 a thought, now you’ve finished that bit, sorry.

I have thought about moving the cupboards forward Simon but in the end I've decided not to because:
1. Having them set against the wall and the layout overhanging by 350mm at the front gives me access the the underside of the layout for bolting up and attaching the interconnect cables etc
2. Moving them forward visually narrows the room and increases the 'mass' of the layout
3. It seems a waste having a large void behind the cupboards into which stuff could fall whilst building the layout

I know that folk are concerned that I'm going to be constantly banging my head but it's not happened yet (famous last words) and is less likely since I've moved the front rail of the frame in by 100mm.

The cupboards are fixed to each other but not the wall or the frame so it will be possible to move them forward at a later date if required - for instance if I need to create a secret priest-hole to hide illicit GWR stock.

There's small holes on the rear of the doors to help locate the pilot holes but I think I will use the pilar drill in the garage to get the straight.

PS, if I get it wrong there's only me to blame as there's no apprentice. No1 daughter has helped me move the layout boards around though. You can move the boards on your own but using two peeps means they can be kept flat and don't need all the junk clearing off.
