May I ask what tools/method you used to smooth/tidy up the solder infills on the corners of the tender?

They are actually nickel silver castings. Slightly altered so I could use the kit beading. The cast on beading looked nothing like anything else. As for tools it was just needle files to gently enlarge slots in tender to match castings and any initial poor fit. Then various grades of wet and dry to clean up.

I see.

Many thanks for taking the time to share, Peter.

Lack of concern for GWR crews are those stonking great coil springs in the cab. I seem to remember they were also in Pannier Tanks instead of under-slung leaf springs.

It's a synthetic cellulose car paint, I can buy here. Unfortunately I found after spraying there's a sell by date on it, I presume that's why it dried satin not gloss this time. Will buy new for next one. I have a new spray gun too. It's a little bigger than an airbrush, but much better for spraying bodies.

Hi Peter , here in Australia cellulose is impossible to find but i haven't asked about a synthetic type . What size tip is your new gun running ? I have an Iwata that runs a .6mm tip and is perfect for spraying coaches as it has a 150 ml pot and yet isnt much larger than an air brush.

When you consider the dangers of working on a footplate, losing a finger or two after trapping them in those coil springs would be the least of your worries.

Very nice build Peter. Do you think the dull finish will cause any problems with the adhesion of the transfers?

Cheers,
Peter

Having put the 2P to one side until I can see where I'm going to with it.
I started on the rebuilding of the Rhymney Railway R. Just a reminder this is what it looked like when it came from GOG E&T.

It is built rigid, as it came with milled solid coupling rods.
I also needed to make a radial axle as this was missing. It all now works well as an 0-6-2.

The basic footplate has also been constructed. It's a nice fit on the frames, just needs shortening slightly, to save paintwork later.
I now need to fix it to something flat before continuing. It's a little wavy from striping down.

I had forgotten how big this loco is.

Seem to of got on quite well with the body. The boiler is not fixed as yet as the smoke box and firebox both need finishing. I'm making a new smoke box wrapper at the moment, the original wash destroyed taking it apart.

One bit that is puzzling me are the cab sides the ones I took off are to short. They are about 2mm shy of reaching the front sheet. I've put everything in the places marked. Everything else fits nicely. So not sure what the previous owner had done differently. But now have made new ones.

Just one side fitted so far. I got side tracked with the smoke box, and fitting some of the cab interior before the hole got to small.
I'm struggling to keep the brass clean, but often have this on kits that have been striped down. As you can probably see the cab floor had been butchered by the previous, more than likely to fit in an undersized cab.

Hopefully more soon. Will be a little slower as there are replacement parts to be made from now on in.
