Great job there Peter, the thread will be used as an 'aide memoir' when I get round to my Arthur build - hopefully in the not too distant future:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

:D

A magnificent effort Peter.

Richard

Thanks Richard.
It's been a challenge. At least I will know what to do when I build my S15.

Thanks Mike.
I am pleased you think my efforts will aide your build.

Very nice Peter, smashing job, slap some paint on, get it sold quick and crack on with Bodmin!

Thanks Chris.
Nice easy paint job, black all over. I am looking at what to do with Bodmin, I think I can get the first two boards done, which will be the platform. So about 2.5metres four points and a slip . Nice and easy!!!!!!

Hi Peter.

Superb job. I now see that it's possible to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. You encourage my efforts with the "K" (when I can get out to the workshop to spend some time on it!)

Brian

Thanks Brian. You are also doing a cracking job on the K.
I think with Ace kits if you approach them thinking there's work to be done you are ok. It would of been easy in the UK where there is a chance of getting missing castings, but here it's not worth the hassle. I did not help my self with building a version that the kit is not really designed for. But for the money it is an awful lot of locomotive.

Done by teatime then.

I wish.

Tea time comes around very quickly now we have Pedro.

I have finally got around to the painting of the S15. No mojo has not helped, but we have fought through that and a lack of work shop time. A bit of an overdose of photos, making up lack of posts lately I think.

Well here is the loco in primer ready for the black. I have to admit there was less filling to do with the tab slots that were not used or far larger than the tabs. Looking at the tender I think I really need to fill thee gaps in the poorly fitting side to the coal chute.. Or put some coal into it.

I am pleased with the finish, now it is primed I think I have managed to capture the basic look of the Urie loco.

Hopefully I can get this completed soon.

Whats this no posts for ages then two within a week.

I managed to get the black paint done. I have trouble with water condensing on the outside of the air brush. Then getting sucked into the spray once out of the gun. Even at night with the air con on it was happening. I tied a bit of copper wire around gun near to the head with the ends pointing down to make a drip. The air pressure was turned down a little more, the paint made wetter and I seem to have got it all better and water free.

As always I have had trouble taking pictures of a black engine I really need a new tripod to keep it all steady.

Here are most of the parts some pictures were not good enough to post;

since I took the photos I have done the red paint out on both the S15 and Dukedog. Now we just have to get them back, can I remember what I did? I also forgot the coupling between loco and tender on the S15.

Today was first time in workshop this week I had about 4 hours which at the moment is great, So after playing with Pedro, feeding him, going for a walk and giving him a shower, I actually managed to take these pictures, nothing at all constructive, and SWMBO thinks I live in my room.

Well here´s progress so far with the reassembly and finishing off the S15. The frames for the loco are ready for valve gear now. The bogies are ready too. The tank is almost ready for varnish. The loco body has the number on one side only. I am debating whether It is a small triangle under the number on some locos or a capital A the old SR power class; The boiler bands still need to be added then I think we are or will be ready for a coat of varnish. I have found a nice acrylic artist varnish here. I use matt which dries nearer to satin. Gloss is unusable and satin is quite glossy.

I was hoping this would of been finished and in the UK months ago but this year has conspired against model making.

I have decided that a DJB M7 I had in stock that was for me will now be built and moved on, then I will get the Finney7 one. Now how do I get the Radial????

Whilst pondering the dukedog motor problem, I have been trying to finish the S15. I finished off the painting and given it a coat of satin.

I have got the frames and valve gear completely finished. The bogie side control was sorted.

I then realised I had no loco tender coupling. This took a little thought as i had put a vacuum cylinder over where the tender fixing. I am quite pleased with the result. I need to tidy up the paint on the rear of the frames now.

These little bits have been done over a few weeks. I grab whatever time I can, trouble is that I spend half a hour figuring out where i got to then my time is about done. Nevertheless we are almost there.

The wheels for my M7 are somewhere in Brazil along with castings from Laurie. God knows when I will get them...
