That it is on my thread is really gutting. :twisted:

Last week someone managed to spoof my email address and sent a lot of spam to all my address book - I am not sure if it is linked, but it doesn't look the same the message. In the spam there was just had a link to a web page advertising drugs etc. I have scanned both my home and work laptops and no sign of any viruses (unless the problem lies with Yahoo, who host my mail). I have since deleted all the entries in my address book so it should stop replicating.

Ok I have just got back in.... I have deleted the user and all the posts. It may well be that I need to tighten up registration by using 'captcha' but its something I have stayed away from as being such a small forum this hasnt been a problem before.
Rob its not linked, the 'member' joined several weeks ago.

I should add its spamming rather than hacking into the database, therefore its not a security breach, its a registration issue. no personal data has been compromised.

Nah, it's just a pain in the bum!
It is worth emphasising that care should always be taken when clicking on external links, especially if you can't see the full URL

More good news (from my point of view anyway) it looks like the spam was a Yahoo issue rather than mine alone. I just tried to send an email from my mail account and was asked to type letters and numbers that appeared in a box in an effort to prevent spammers.

Yahoo can be rather prone to spam, i find gmail pretty good in that respect

I have a little bit of advice, change your password they are monitoring your mail usage and if they recieve another complaint they will lock your email trust me ask me how i know.
