Yes, Ellerton road was unfortunatly static each time I walked past - not a good advert for S7.
Yes, it looked like they had major electrical problems, as all of Saturday there was a lady probing the depths of the control panel with a multimeter.

Unfortunately I didn't make the meet on Saturday, but had a good time nonetheless.

I thought it was a good show and the trade stands were fine, but to be honest, I too was a bit disappointed with the layouts.

There didn't seem to be many of them and there was most certainly nowhere near enough of God's lovely BR blue. I totally agree with the comments about working to real timetables.

It was a 450 mile round trip for me and I would certainly have liked to have seen more things operating.

I loved Aberbeeg though. I used to live just up the line at Risca and it was great to see what was there in the 80s. It's just a single through track now with hourly Sprinters and no station, let alone a junction!

I finally got my two JLRT 08s. One of them is probably going to be 3517, but I haven't decided on the other yet.

Only because you are no longer allowed near sharp objects...

How is all that "eating with a spoon" going?  :)

My Telford was somewhat different. I was unable to make it this year (again), so instead Telford came to me, and via various members of the West Mersea Mob and other notables, this morning arrived some JLTRT Gresley carriage sides plus three Metropolitan Jubilee carriage kits from Ken's Profiles for Basilica Fields. However, here's the best bit; all safely passed into my grubby mitts with not a single dent to the wallet... 8)

Next year I'll try for a 25/1... ;)

not too bad now you ask, knocked out a Cambrian 15 0-6-0 goods loco for a friend aver the last few weeks and, so far anyway, no obvious side effects - so fingers crossed  I'll be taking some photos later in the week, when he has finished the lining etc.

cheers

I enjoyed the show and managed to get most of the little bits n pieces on my list (thank god i did all this saturday :-[,). Sunday was a ok day but as has already been mentioned i was'nt in any real fit state to buy anything. Sunday was spent mostly sat down, which alot of you guys found amusing :-[. I had a good chat with the Guv and Dan (great to catch up with you two guys again).
Great to meet up with the others: Mike,Ian, Mark ,Ian,Richard,Ant,Jordan and i appologise if ive missed anyone out plus of course Steve, Phill,Ross (hes to blame for my state)  who i travelled with
A big thankyou must go to Richard (Dikitriki ) and his good lady for their kind hospitality. Heyside was FANTASTIC  .and that lattice bridge as i commented to you Richard was exellent . Will look great when you alter the other part of it
Back to the show, the layout front was  in lack of (in my opinion ) BLUE. diesels but of course its all about interests .Can anyone explain why Guildplates were'nt there
But overall a nice show and enjoyed

Hi Rob,

I bumped into some of my old Guildford OGG mates over the weekend who told me that Phillip Preston (the bearded half of Guilplates) has not been blessed with good health of late and therefore it was decided that they would not attend. They can still be contacted by phone and email for orders as I understand it.

Glad to read that you have surfaced somewhere near where you wanted to, that you are almost in one piece and can remember going to the show yesterday.

cheers

Unfortunatley Ellerton Road's electrics cabinet was damaged immediatly prior to the show, so they did there best to get it repaired, I don't know if they got it running Sunday ?
The Lass working on it on Saturday was Emma Eatwell, who was the Editor for the S7 newsletter until recently, she works on signalling on the real railways and probably knows more about signals than the lot of us put together.
I believe she is building a layout based on Farringdon, London in S7.

I've just got back from my weekend away, having visited Telford on the Saturday.  It was great to meet up with Thunderers old and new and on the whole had a splendid day.

Top purchases too - an unbuilt Finney M7 on the E&T with all the trimmings for £300, the castings I need to finish my 'Z' (I started building it as an apprentice piece so it's stalled for around 18 years!) and the bargain of the day: unbuilt DJB 38t Cowans Sheldon crane kit for £200 on the Bring and Buy.  The last time I saw one unbuilt it went (as in actually sold) in excess of £600...

Roll on Bristol - see you there!

totally agree - a genuine bargain - the designer - Dennis French lives not far from me and he has one in a showcase in his lounge - very much

No, no sign of any action which is a shame.

So now we all know why you have not been talking about a purchase of a R&R 36T crane....  ;)
10 boxes arrived at 9am on the Saturday and Peter had his kit / box not long after.

Yeah, well, what was I going to do?  Leave it there?  ;D

It's a model of the Eastleigh crane so is absolutely perfect for the layout.  It also gives me a reason to (scratch)build a couple of very interesting carriages, the two SR re-framed LBSCR coaches.  These were the crane's riding/mess cars in the late forties and early fifties.

Now I need to find sources of 64dp steel gears and cheap/surplus gearmotors so I can make the thing work.  No, it's not expected to be a quick build!

Ian Young was taking extreme pains to ensure that all prospective purchasers were aware that he made no claims as to his kit producing a "working" model.  Methinks that a quiet discussion with ABC is in order.
