Realistic Tarps

Never had a good excuse to try it but I reckon silk would be good for tarps because of the way it drapes over small details, its strong and waterproof and almost scale tpi for 7mm. I imagine finding a tarpy looking dye would be a PITA though if you wanted to keep it flexible rather than painted solid. Could be good for van roofs too.

Layout paper (for 4mm scale), paint, scrunch, smooth, glue. It takes a wonderfully subtle crease; I've yet to see anything better in the smaller scales.

Neil, can you explain some more? Do you mean tracing paper? Cheers
Simon

Layout paper is a softer kind of tracing paper. If you go to an art shop or a Hobbycraft they sell Daler products. Layout paper is one of them, and can be bought by the pad.

Just a thought with the silk and the size of the weave, would it be suitable for canvas roofs?

Thanks Heather, an excellent description of layout paper. As well as art shops I have in the past bought it from the larger, better stocked branches of WH Smiths, not sure if it's still part of their range though.
