Removable loads for mineral wagons

I deciding that I needed to remove coal loads from my mineral wagons I decided to use pan scoures cut to fit the wagon, sprayed and then whave the load glued on top. thus to unload the wagon one just gently squeezes the load and it should come out easily. Don't over glue the load or it will crack as happened when I did my ballast wagons.

Like all really good ideas, that is simple and obvious in hindsight - no farting around with pipe lagging which is also a lot stiffer and hard to remove.

Incidentally, coal loads where the loading was done by shovel tended to be flat, where hoppers were loaded with hump (like yours) and with modern mgr trains, the hump tends to be regular. This is as much a period thing as anything else, so it pays to check against photographic evidence for one's chosen time and place.

I've done something similar for my 16tonners, but using a piece of expanded polystyrene, cut slightly smaller than the internal wagon dimensions. Add a 'hump' from filler, paint black, coat with PVA and apply real coal. The trick I've used is to bury a small magnet in the hump; the load can then be lifted out very simply with another magnet...
Also works with scrap loads that have real steel in them... ;)

I intend to use metal pan scourers pull them to pieces add more bits of scrap metal then sqwish it all down then add them to a wagon copious amounts of rust coloured paint and real rust from being left outside should give me a realistic load
