7mm Ressaldar's Workshop - a paintshop diversion

Simon,

that is a great find, thanks for posting. Is there any information available, caption wise? Pictures of Hydraulics towing/propelling inspection saloons are rarer than hens teeth - it looks like an ex GWR Q13 saloon, just by the curve of the water filler pipe, but any information that you can find/obtain would be great. Have you started thinking about scratchbuilding a Q13 to go with your 22 yet - in 1/32 it would still be a short train:thumbs::thumbs: - I'm getting the scatter gun down from above the mantelpiece as I type. Wonder if I could persuade Orion to scale up their 7mm Q13 - or at least have access to their artwork?

cheers

Hi Mike

Glad you liked it. I know nothing about the vehicle, but had already thought it would make a great model to go with D6319. On the same site is another picture taken at Bristol and with a Hymek attached. The photographer calls it the area inspection saloon. (Look under "1960s miscellany" for the picture)

I think the S&D picture shows the WR taking demolition contractors over the line so that they can quote for taking it all apart:(

I'd be interested in the sources for any drawings of the vehicle, mind you I've got enough projects on the go already. I have just done a bit more to the long spring for my 4 wheel coach which I intend to use as a pattern for casting - now where have I heard that before:rolleyes:?

Sorry for the thread hi-jack:oops:

Hi Simon,

many thanks for the reply:thumbs: , if it's Inspections Saloons with Hydraulics, there is no hi-jack.

The saloon in the latest picture is definitely an ex GWR Q13, (possibly W80975) and therefore the subject of the Orion kit.

Amongst your 'shelf queens' is the 121:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs: , is it due for a dusting down soon? that would give you a second 'power source' to go with the Saloon;)

cheers

Hi Mike,

Have you seen the S&D book 'Sabotaged & Defeated' (vol1), theres some pictures of a C&C Q13 with both green & blue Hymeks - intersting twist, the saloon has two (square) yellow panels on the end either side of the gong, something I hadnt seen before.

Regards

Andy

Hi Andy,

thanks for the heads-up, I have not seen the book - a call to a certain shop in Bath seems to be coming on.

off on another tangent - our Club Chairman asked if I would like to paint & weather his latest acquisition - a Tower/Sang Cheng 57xx - and I thought why not.

The requirement was to do 7714, a long time 6C Birkenhead loco, in lightly weathered mid 1050s condition. After consulting numerous photos and checking the model, the items for rectification were - reversing lever on the left hand side (were not all GWR engines right hand drive?) only three fireiron brackets and there should be four and two footsteps for the fireman on his side of the bunker (these are supplied in the box should they be required)

So here is the storey so far

The smokebox number and shedplate are still to be fixed, currently painted all white and left for drying before the black 'infill' goes on. The hose coming out of the cab is copied from a photo of classmate 7754 seen on Flickr. Plates are from Guilplates and the Lion 0n Wheel is from the HMRS pressfix range. All will be left for a couple of days to settle down, the cab roof retaining screws will be fixed and then the airbrush will be put to use on the weathering and finally the bunker will be coaled. Photos to follow soon.

cheers

I'm not sure when the safety valve bonnet was finished as polished brass. From building, the bonnets were painted. Is there a date when they might have started to polish rather than paint as locos went through the works?

Hi Heather,

many thanks for your comment, I'm not sure is the rapid answer, but this is another case of 'the customer knows best', but there are a couple of photos on Flickr of 'in 1950s service' panniers with the bonnet polished.

cheers

Fair enough. ;)

A quick skip through my near contemporary Observer's Books was not conclusive, but seemed to show most smaller tank engines with painted - or at least pretty grubby - bonnets. But, as you say, the customer knows best.
