Rob,

Did you ever complete the Class A, I am thinking of buying one as my next project and would welcome your general impressions of it.

Hello Mossie,

I didn't but by coincidence I was looking at it just before we moved and thinking that it needed to move up the list.

As for my impressions of the kit.
It's of it's age. By that I mean it's hand drawn art work so the etches are not as fine and crips as CAD drawn ones would be. The dimples for rivets were over etched I recall making it more of a challenge to get them spaced correctly etc. On the more positive side Slaters castings are excellent and the main parts that I had assembled all went together without having to do any major work to get them to fit.

I would happily have another if I come across one at the right price at any point. I may even buy a new one if I run out of other stuff to do because I now live right where they were used most.

Hi Rob,

Thanks for the reply, I think the key words are "I would happily have another" and "the main parts went together well", both good reply's to an average builder not a super star like quite a number of here. It would be nice to get my reverse alphabet filled in, having built a class C, working on a B so just the A to go. Not sure where to go from there but an NER class M would be nice just it wouldn't really fit on a branch line but I have a broad imagination.

You might be surprised, I have been reading recently that Northallerton Shed sent a Class M (LNER D17) up the Wensleydale Branch to Layburn each evening to collect Milk (I think) for a good number of years in the 1930's.

I've read that somewhere, I think in a Ken Hoole book, but I couldn't be sure, anyway given my period is 1890 - 1910 ish i.e. firmly in Worsdell time, there is no way a class M would be seen up a branch line! But as the saying goes its my railway I will do want I want, you never know.

Keep well

Got you, mine will be later than that - firmly in grouping. I already have the Class M kit in the stash.
