Hi Robin,
I like the look of this wagon which has a lot of character.  Your seat looks just the job in the compartment and the design  does credit to the ancient art of paper folding.

How do you spell origami in Stanley?

Thanks Graham,  I am really enjoying the build. I am not even bothered that I have had to scratch build some of the bits.

I am still struggling to find LMS running numbers but I am settled on lined crimson for the livery.

I like the seat

Thanks Cynric, it moved on a little last night after my posting

Seat 001.JPG

A real leather seat - I cannot claim any credit for it, my good lady did it including tooling the seams in the leather to look like stitched panels. It's not very clear in the photo but she has also tooled some representations of the buttons like you get on old leather seats.[/attach]

I had planned to post an update last night but ran out of steam.

The horse box now has it's roof on and I spent most of yesterday beefing up the rather flimsy brakes. By good fortune I bought a lot of etched kettle related spares from Mike Cole (Resseldar) and among them there were 16 etched brake shoes in Nickel which are a perfect fit (8 for this box and 8 for the Midland box should I need them). Once they were soldered to the brake shoes in the kit, I used scrap etch to strengthen the arms. I have also got one of the step boards on and again used scrap etch to strengthen the support straps for the lower step boards.

I have also attached the brake cylinder and cross shaft - rather stupidly not adding rocking arm for the brake rods despite adding the one for the cylinder :-[

The horse box is finally finished. I will post photo's after the transfer to the new forum.
Next up is another horse box this one is a D&S kit for a NER diagram 67. A day of work today has seen all the main parts removed from the etch and cleaned ready for assembly. Which starts now

Hi Rob,

best of luck with the build - I hope that amongst all of these horse boxes, you've also got a provender wagon or two for the hay and muck.

cheers

Thanks Mike, The only provender wagons that I am aware of are the GWR provender wagons I haven't come across any examples from other companies.

Mmm... I think Blacksmith do a kit for them. I do hope the instructions are better than the ones with this kit, in that there are some. All there is with this is an A5 sketch showing where some of the parts vaguely fit. Some of the parts I cannot find at all and others I have no idea where they go. ho hum.... and all that. :headbang: :headbang:

If any of our Area 51 members have any information on the Diagram 67 NER horsebox I would be ery grateful if they would share it.

Thanks guys,

Hi Mike funny you should mention Shergar, I am building the D&S one with a sliding observation door that will allow you to look inside and see the horse (s) that will be inside. I have a few photos of internal layouts of horse boxes which while generic will be better than nothing at all - that is unless Col's info includes internals of the NER box.

Not my era Rob, but that is a lovely job ..........what soldering iron are you using these days ?

Phill :)

Thanks Phill,
I use a combination of a 40watt digital solder station from Maplins and a Microflame (Iroda Solderpro 120) for brass/nickel silver work. I also use a cheap and cheerful Maplins variable temp (£9.99) iron for white metal.
