Hello,

I thought it about time I posted some photos of my 1/32nd scale models:-

Two photos of my version of Fred Phipps superb 1/32nd NBL Class 22, D6333, running at Simon's garden railway last year.

Four phots of a semi-scratch built GWR 10 ton ballast wagon. The chassis is a 1/32nd kit available from Peter Korzillius, the top half I have put together from 30 thou and 40 thou plasticard.

My version of the Mercian Loriot M diagram G14 to be finished as a "Lowmac WE" in BR WR (hydraulic) days.

This is my first attempt at weathering. So far I have managed to achieve a reasonable representation of the well planking by using Humbrol 29 dark earth, 62 leather and 110 natural wood. On their own these colours looked a bit too bright so I rubbed a sanding sponge over the planks and this has produced a grain effect by exposing the grey primer in places. Adding a dark brown wash has dirtied up the planking and this looks much better.

Hello Rog
Glad to see you made it onto WT, I will keep my steely eye on what goes on hear as I am always impressed with what you produce, will the 10t GWR ballast wagon be next into the Fry weathering shop? You have forgot to tell us how many rivits you put onto your scratch built GWR ballast wagon. I like the fact that you indicate which paints you are using and the technique, where`s the images of your MK1 coach (28ten) will wobbly at the knees seeing that beauty.
Cheers for now

Hello Steve,

It was 296 rivets I think, and I have a few more photos to post yet, including the MK1 BSK.

Now that I have got used to Irfan View and posting, here's a few more photos.

Mercian Macaw H, built straight out of the box, but with brass tube added for the pipe load.

Mercian ventilated van, diag V23, again built straight from the box. I used O gauge Fox transfers which looked reasonable to me at the time, now I'm not so sure.
Mercian Vent Van resize.jpg

Slaters milk tank, quite a challenge to put together, but makes up into a nice model in the end.

Just for Cynric, Mk1 BSK. This is a Tower Brass coach with added detail by Dave Walker, and painted by Liz Marsden at Cromford Designs. To the left you can just see Mr. TV's SR PMV. Taken at Simon's garden railway last year.

I'm not too keen on the painting phase of modelling and I struggle with weathering, but I'm trying out a few techniques at the moment. The last two photos show an old O gauge 16 ton mineral wagon on which I've had a go at putting into practice some of the methods described in Martyn Welch's book, "The Art of Weathering".

Rob, Ian,

Glad you like the 6300. For the moment most of this stock will be left in "ex-works" condition until my weathering skills improve. The Loriot M / Lowmac WE is my current build and my first proper venture into weathering.

Here's a few more photos of the 6300.

Hi Roger

Great to see those pictures of your stock - fabulous.

Also those pictures in the garden, now over a year ago(!) - will hopefully motivate me to progress the line further for another get together.

I look forward to further pics - have you decided what's up next after the Loriot?

Great to have another 1/32er joining in here too:thumbs:

Hi Rog
Nice to see all your stock and I am glad that the Martyn Welch is inspiring you into the challange of weathering, a comination of airbrushing, drybrushing and a good dose of courage is all that is required!! If all goes wrong you could take up boat modelling !! (It take it the varnish incident has now been rectified?) Rog any news on the Mercian 1/32nd D95xx ? we spoke to him at the Bakewell show and he is also going to produce a PWM`er which is great as both Rob Mabbett and I have the scale wheels allready from Mark Wood, we were going to scratch build 650 & 654 however no need to now.
Any Im off to solder some class 21 & 29 bits together.
Cheers

Hello Simon and Steve,

I hadn't realised how long it was since we last had a running session on your line. It certainly looks like it is coming along in the more recent photos that you have posted.

For the Loriot, I've got a load - a 1/32nd Massey Ferguson tractor, a bit of chain, and a combination of turnbuckles and O gauge couplings to secure the chain and load. As far as the weathering is concerned, just a bit more to do after applying transfers. I'm not going to jump in and make it look really dirty as I've already learnt the hard way that there is a very fine line between something looking just about acceptable and bad.

No news yet about the Mercian 1/32nd class 14. Hopefully there will be some news from Warley.

Cheers,

Roger

Hi Roger,

the Loriot looks great, just waiting for a Drott loading shovel or JCB type backhoe as a load - you could probably get away with using 1/35 models.

cheers

Hi Rog
Have you considered using an airbrush to aid your weathering, The Airbrush Company have a good selection.
http://www.airbrushes.com/
I am about to buy a new airbrush and compressor. Iwata Revolution and the silver series jet compressor, I used to borrow Robs, an airbrush gives a great tone to drybrush over. this may help you technique.
Cheers

WHich evolution model are you looking at Steve? I have the CR which has proven very durable and better coverage (for big stuff) than my HP-C+ the latter is better for finer detail though, still think a spray gun for the MK1's :))
