Hi Mick, I will be interested as to what you find out on this subject as it's something that has crossed my mind recently. Apparently CPL do cast ones but they are GWR pattern. Despite this in the absence of anything else even GWR pattern ones would be better than just a nut.

I agree Rob, I may end up just making each one individually but I was hoping not to have to do that. I think the best NE type i've seen are the Finney ones on his V2 but he won't supply seperate castings :headbang:

I don't seem to have any in mine:( he says having hastily looked through the bags of castings. Perhaps a call to Martin is in order. I haven't really looked that closely at them before - there are some quite exquisite castings in the bags.

Mick,
When I fitted the coupling rods to my jinty I drilled the nut .7mm and soldered a bit of brass rod into it for the lookalike split cotter pin, but left it looking like a nut, bottled out from trying to file the nuts. Will post a photo when I fetch my camera battery tomorrow.
I should think a man of your superb capabilities could file a curve at opposite ends of the nut to represent the prototype.

Just what I had in mind really Alan but i'm always looking for a quicker solution as I think almost all the NER engines i'll be modelling in the near future have these crank pin nuts.

You're a lucky man Rob having one of those kits to play with

Phil, I haven't seen them to be honest. A quick google search returned no results, do you have an info, pictures etc...

Mick,
Derek advertises in the Gazette. He was at Bolton show and I had intended to go back and buy some - £9 for a set of 6 I believe, but ran out of funds before getting around to it:oops:

We could turn them from silver steel Mick, drill and tap and then file the flats:thumbs: I will have to do some any way for my own loco's:D

Sounds like a plan to me Col, it will really set them off nicely I think. As said before much nicer than a nut, ot sure how we're going to stamp the loco numbers in the different ones though :))

If people can engrave the Lords Prayer on the head of a pin Colin will have no problem with the loco number on a crank-pin nut:D

Hi Tim,
Welcome to WT mate. As soon as I saw "Mudhen" I knew it was you. My other half tells me that may also be Marsh hen yes?
I'll have to engrave the numbers on the crank pins as I don't think I'll be able to make punches that small:rolleyes:

Colin
This Mudhen is a nickname for a Denver and Rio Grande narrow gauge 2-8-2, Class K 27, so called because of the way they supposedly waddled along the unevenly laid 3 foot gauge track rather like an American bird of the same name, feathered variety of course.
Now back to the the K3...!!!
best regards
Tim

Mick,

I have some of of the Scale 7 crankpin nuts to which you refer somewhere. They are heaxagonal nuts with an integral flange. I wouldn't imagine that they would be too difficult to modify to achieve something close to your photograph. If I can put my hands on them I'll post a picture on here tomorrow.

Incidentally, whilst I'm replying to you, I'll reintroduce myself to you. I'm the Dave that Mick Nicholson introduced to you at the recent Doncaster show.

Best Wishes,

Dave

Hi Dave,

I can now put a face to the avatar, how are your layout plans coming along? It would be great if you could post some pictures just to see what they are like,

Cheers Mick

Hi Mick,

Firstly, in reply to your request for details of the Scale7 crankpin nuts, please find attached two pictures I've taken of the items in question.

With regard to my layout plans, I'm still tweaking the plan I showed you at Doncaster to try and expand the locomotive servicing facility. I'll keep you posted on developments.

Cheers,

Dave

Thanks for the pictures Dave, gives some food for thought. I still don't think they're quite right to be honest. I think the best plan is to turn some up with Col so that I can replicate the real thing as closely as possible,
