068 looks very like the adjustment for the tender to loco drawbar distance. This from memory.

Watch some of the photos on the tender instructions. I'm sure some of them are the BR2/2a tender from the 2-6-0 4mt kit which is a very similar construction but not 100% identical. I seem to remember reading a note about it somewhere.

Hi Kev, it doesn't say this in the instructions, I will try and phone Dave sharp next week as one of the tender wheels doesn't unscrew.

On the Ivatt tender it uses a very similar plate but its numbered 014 here is the info from the instructions. 20200613_100928.jpg

Hi Mark I emailed Dave Sharp about the discrepancy in the instructions, so he doing an update.

He will end up re-writing the whole book if he does many more updates lol....
The original instructions were very rushed though.
I can remember him telling me when I brought my kits that they would need a few updates...
Once you have built a couple of his kits you get to know his techniques for doing things so its not so much of a problem.

The instructions are a lot better than the other kits I have built. It's good that he updates them.

    They sure are.
I only know of 2 other companies that do instructions that are anywhere near as good one being MMP.
They are step by step with excellent line drawings of the assembly.
The other being the new Finney 7 range of instructions they are superb and are a similar style to the MOK kits with a lot of added historical info to help your choice of build.

Hi, I have nearly finished the chassis, it was easy putting it together just twisting the tabs together. What I need to know is how much does the transverse beam need to twist, do I make the beams a bit shorter by filling the side pieces, or are they fine as a are?

Can you comment, as you progress, on the adaptations required for ScaleSeven please. Are the frames at the correct spacing? I recognise that the wheels are spaced out from the frames by the hornblocks on the prototype. Do Slater's wheels, suitably thinned and reprofiled, fit OK - perhaps with an extra spacer?

Easy, it builds as an S7 model with no adaption needed. Dave provides the few bits needed if you tell him it is for S7; brakehangers if I remember correctly. I cannot remember any problems. You can buy some S7 wheels from Dave or go through the turning and packing routine with Slaters.
The hardest bit is remembering how to get the backhead back in to the cab at the end.

    Dave,
I think you will find that the loco frames on these locos was something like 3ft apart so no issues with S7.
    all the best

    Thanks Gents

It will be a while before I attempt mine - need a bit more practice with 'lesser' wagon and loco kits before 'going large'!

It is the loco brake spreaders that Dave suppliers for S7 and a wider pony truck, thats all you need as Riddles designed the loco with finescale modellers in mind.

As the chaps said no issues with the frames, I'm building the tender at the moment. I have the metal wheels for S7 so no problems there. The wheels are a little spaced apart don't know if they washers, I will report my progress.

    Dave,

    be bold.

My first etched brass loco (and maybe second or third etched kit) was a Finney 47xx, which was expensive, scary and bl***y fantastic in roughly equal measure.

If I’d chosen a lesser kit, I might well have struggled to build it, whereas the top end kits do fit together, and that is the key.

yes, it needed some fettling to get it across a Peco crossover (my acceptance test on the basis if it’ll do that, it’ll run anywhere) and I know you don’t need that, so my advice would be to clear the bench and go for it. If you and Len are roughly on the same bits at the same time, it’ll probably be easier for both of you.

    be bold!

I think they were from jeweller's but I am not sure how to use it? Thanks.
