I was also glad to see the mother of all air receiver tanks on the back of the tender which I think is quite a nice characteristic of the NE tender.

Unfortunately there isn't enough meat on the dummy frames for the Slaters insulated horn guides for the split axles, so I'll need to cut some new ones.

A fair amount of Cleaning up required from tonights session.

JB.

Look forward to seeing this one finished.....is that part of you're padded cell in the back ground mate ? :D

Thanks Col.

It might not take me too long to cut it out of flat. I'll see how i go, and if it's a pain I'll take you up on the offer.

Just very quickly added the tender axle boxes and springs. They look a bit undercooked and shrivelled to me. I could get away with the boxes and springs, but the spring hangers definitely need redoing!

Any opinions or suggestions for castings?

I hate being right... :(

I suggested laminating with solvent-free impact adhesive. Solvent lamination with styrene is a nightmare although I have seen some of Barry Norman's work recently; he uses limonene, which I'm tempted to try.

I've got a scratchbuilt Maunsell carriage which has suffered much the same problem. Drilling through the softened parts of the body has allowed the excess solvent to evaporate, but it's taken something like a year* to harden back up again. I'll fill the external drill holes by supergluing in styrene rod. For me it was worth waiting*; there's hours work in cutting out all the windows and the interior.

Steph

* I looked at it a month or so ago; with all the Finney7 work on at the moment I wasn't going to be able to get back to it in the last year if I'd wanted to!

Such a shame. It all looks so promising to start with, doesn't it?

B

It really is... I'm just glad I hadn't got quite as far as you before I decided to have a break and work on something else, though there's still a few hours work there. Of course the bogies will be reused..

Will probably take a matter of minutes to draw one in cad. And even less time to fold the body up thanks to the lack of turnunder/ tumble home.

Just one of those cases of getting round to it. Of course if anyone has a drawing, I'd love to see it.

I don't know for certain, but George is usually at the Reading Trade Show in December. However, last year he was talking about retirement - in any event it'll be worth ordering whatever you need as he doesn't always hold stocks of all items, especially the big rivetting machine.

I suggest you give him a call.
