Thanks everyone, but not too sure what you mean by putting the markings on the footplate frame.

On the brake van duckets there is a half etch line in the supporting frame to indicate where to bend them. As per the instructions I kept them in the frame whilst bending but unfortunately in this case the duckets are half etched and the frame isn't so it didn't hold the ducket that securely. For this set I'll just use a marker pen with the half etch markings to indicate where to draw the line.

Looking good JB. I really envy you guys who have the know how and ability to design your own etchings. Opens who a whole new set of possibilities. Still there's a lot of kits I would still like to build.

Cheers.

Thanks Adrian, I'll have to take a look at the artwork and see if there is enough space to try something similar. I think there may be just enough space.

Cheers for the pic!

Peter, it does rather make the world your oyster - just so long as you can get accurate drawings of course.

There are plenty of kits that I would like to build, but there is something quite satisfying about building your own kit, and also once the kit design is completed you can build a fleet of the same class for a fraction of the cost.

It does open the eye to all the kit designers that were drawing everything in pen before CAD, and almost allows a little forgiveness when things don't go together correctly. I did say 'almost'..

Thanks Colin, if you look at the gap under the boiler on mine, it's too big, and the step from the smoke box to boiler looks too big to me too.

I will be commencing the redrawing of sheet 2 with the boiler, some time soon. :headbang:

No idea how I got that wrong. The barrel is 1.2mm undersize in dia, and the smokebox is out by 1mm too. I think I will need a chassis mk3 etch as well. The tops of the frames at the front are around 0.5mm too low. Not much, but coupled with the boiler shrinkage, that would cause the error..

Bored now..

Just a suggestion JB and I don't want to teach you to suck eggs, but you didn't take the boiler diameter as literal? You can add quite a few inches onto the boiler dimensions for insulation and cladding.

JP

Edit: as I typed this my web page updated and I see Colin has already coverd this.

Thanks JP, over cladding dimension was taken, just no idea why it wasn't used..

I know of a few kits in the past where drawings have fallen foul of boiler dimension and over-cladding dimension.

How are the sprung bogies ? ;)

I do like you're thinking Brian, thanks!

What are your findings? Looks to me that everything is very close but for the boiler as suspected.

The footplate level looks different but I think that could be put to the camera angle.
