Once they're painted they'll look fine, I was thinking it might be easier to slice and drill some appropriate brass rod myself. It probably wouldn't be any quicker or cheaper, I just get these annoying bouts of tourettes when having to file off cusps from multi layered parts, springs especially :p

I know what you mean about visuals, you slave hours on inside motion and once assembled you see nowt

I presume the crosshead wraps over the top of the slidebars, hence the dimples to retain lubricant, nice touch, not seen that modeled before.

Exactly that.

I'm not now 100% on whether they are all like it, but on Met1 those holes are drilled all the way through to provide lubrication to the underside of the slidebars too..

............Yes the valves were under the cylinder. I've seen it on a few locos, one in particular (can't remember the prototype) the lead axle was slap bang in the middle of the point from expansion link to valve chest, and so the valve rod had a 'D' shape that went both below and above the axle............

Decided to crack on with the J15 for a bit..

Got the cast tender flares on without too much drama, but then disaster. After spending most of the day trying to attach the upper coal rails firmly I had find a way new way to fit them. Honestly I nearly threw it a few times!!

I cut out new rails from thicker strip and found some half round thankfully, and eventually got them on with some angle to the rear to give a bigger footprint.

After that I quite fancied a little scratch building for the tender cab. Turns out I'm now building the preserved loco, as it had the tender cab and a stove pipe chimney. I'm a sucker for a stovepipe in BR days.
