Scratch building

Phew!, If you scratchbuilt that in a 5 days you have done extremely well.  I'm never show how long the s/built ones take me as I don't get orders for them very often. The one customer I had who would only have hand made engines died a couple of years ago. I scratch build all the time for myself but don't bother keeping records.
As long as I end up with what I want thats the main thing.
You might have just encouraged me enough to finish the CCW 45xx kit languishing in a box since 1970.

Thanks Guys, 8 hours a day less coffee and tea breaks and all because the golf course was unplayable. Now there is a thaw things may take a little longer. The black still showing on the frames and cylinders is marker pen which I use to allow me to mark the metal prior to cutting out with a 000's piercing saw. The castings were a mixed lot purchased from the Guilds Bring & Buy and were of a good, bad and definitely very ugly quality. I already have the motor and gears but will need to purchase the wheels.

One guy who used to be at Guildex with scratchbuilt engines told me that he could build a Duchess in three weeks.  Somewhere in the region of 120/150 hours which is about what it would take me if I was able to put in 8 hour days without interruptions. I certainly built a Patriot in a 100 hours.
Nice work. Keep  it up.

I made a fully rivetted LMS 4000 gallon tender  in a weekend. I find that at this time of the year its one long round of constant interruptions. Next week I've got a funeral Tuesday and a memorial service Wednesday. Last week I spent two hours in the workshop. Hopeless really with so much to do. I might get more done if I didn't spend time clacking away on here so I'm off............

after ploughing through that building session, you should breeze round the golf course no bother. Brilliant work, looking forward to seeing the completed loco.

Just to show that I haven't been idle and that I have actually done some work despite the snow and cold, I have added some photos in ONWB on my site.
Cheers.
