Speed Restriction signs

One of the features that I would like to have on my outdoor line are the old BR cut out speed restriction signs, which are an attractive feature of the BR railway to my eyes.

I know that there are very nice 4mm ones available, but does anyone here have access to artwork that could be used to etch up larger scale versions?

Perhaps we could do a sheet with both 7mm and 1/32 ones one, splittable into different scales?

I'd happily contribute to the costs of such a project if the right info can be found.

What does anyone else think?

do you have any dimensions for them? It's a pretty simple etching job

I used to have a real one, a lovely big 45 mile job collected one night from a hut at Elsenham in a Citroen Dayane  , but whilst a friend was storing it for me in between houses the scrapman visited his yard and "took the wrong stuff"

I don't have dimensions, I was wondering whether there was or if anyone had any reference drawings, as this would make an etching job quite straightforward.

If not then other methods could be resorted to, working from the 4mm ones blown up on a copier comes to my mind.

Had a quick trawl over the net today, best info so far is that the numbers were approx 18" tall, mounted on a five foot tall post.
I haven't got many good pics to work from, but scaling off a couple of photos in Western Glory shows those dimensions to be in the right ball park. No joy at all finding fonts, drawings or accurate sizes yet. It appears that the numbers were carried over from the LNER, but I have almost no info on the LNER at all, and no luck searching any relevant forums.

I'd have some, in O scale, but only the very low speeds, as my trains can't reach too high a speed on my shunty-planks - unless my lad is driving...!! :?

And count me in for my station approaches. Doesn't PH Designs, who advertises over on RMweb, do that kind of thing? Maybe fire him an email as he has stated that he is looking at new lines to model (excuse the pun  )

Ive got some etched brass ones Cynric, if you would like to borrow them to copy??? had em years no idea who produced them seem to remember paying about a pound for em at a GOG show off E&T stall. No posts on etch you'll have to solder them to an appropriate length of angled brass section.... Ross....

So the question is, how many signs can our chaps here produce for that amount? ;)
More than three, but in fairness a proper manufacturer needs to make money on them.

Hi Jordan,

I was only pointing out that the signs are available commercially, I have only bought two of Peter Clark's Class 419 MLV kits and some of his figures and have been pleased with those. It is like everything else, if you want something that badly and you cannot make it yourself, you pay a price that you are happy with, which as Cynric says, has to include for profit etc.

regards

Mike
