More boring mock ups - this'll be the maximum train length.

The curved backscene, which I'll have to make in three parts, is nearly ready to go in too.

Backscene finally completely. Annoyingly I've had to make it in four pieces due to the wood I had available - a result of trying to keep costs down. Time will tell if I live to regret this. I'll be getting the sander out in the next few days to try and make good the joins!

I've also opened up the backscene to allow access to the fiddle yard.

Just waiting for some underlay to arrive so I can start tracklaying.

    Very neat, Matt.

Is the back scene made of card?

    Hi Jonte,

Nope, it's made from MDF. If I could do it again, I'd make sure I did it in one piece!

I'm sure once it's filled as you suggest, the casual observer won't know any different, and it's probably easier to do in sections anyway.

Hope you don't mind my interjection, but I tried something similar on my American layout using grey board which, while being resilient to bending (to a degree, of course), was cheaper than mdf. Mine were designed to be portable (the gaps being hidden by tall buildings - or at least that was the idea), but essentially the same as yours.

Hope you don't mind me sharing.

    Keep up the good work!

    Regards,

Course I don't mind! Pretty good actually, and I'm sure it was light too?

It was, actually, Matt. Just a shame the door it was built on was so darned heavy!

    Thanks for the compliment.

Today's progress, not including some unwanted cat "weathering" (thankfully I could use the second supplied piece of backscene!).

I like the way you've tucked the backscene into the exit hole - very neat!!

Thank you. Don't tell SWMBO what a good job I've made or she'll be wanting wallpapering done....

As inspiration with the layout seems to have stalled, I thought I'd try to kick start things by painting my Parkside Fish Van to represent a Parcels Van.

The reference photo I'm using is of a very faded van, hence the initial colour here. The next coat will be a bit bluer and the weathering will darken things up too.

Much more BR Blue now - bit of blue overspray plus a couple of coats of gloss have darkened it nicely.

Made a start on the weathering with a bit of airbrush work. More needed including toning down the markings.

But I'm pleased with how it's looking so far.

Errrm.... I think you need a few more ;).

This is one of my photos of Aylesbury in the late 70's early 80's. Interestingly it shows (not quite 50) shades of weathered blue.

Roof painted, just needs couplings and a bit of final weathering now.
